WWE did Dominik Mysterio dirty: The past twelve months have seen a decline for the El Sucio de los Sucios

Since WWE Survivor Series: WarGames in November of last year, Dominik Mysterio has arguably seen a decline in fortunes, not of his own making.

The November 29, 2025, edition of Survivor Series: WarGames saw Dominik Mysterio recapture the WWE Intercontinental Championship from John Cena, having lost it to the star earlier that month.  For the retiring star, becoming WWE Intercontinental Champion for the first time saw him become a Grand Slam Champion.

Since then, the journey of Dominik Mysterio has been a rocky one, leaving the star in what feels like a main roster decline:

High-profile rivalries

The past twelve months haven’t been without highlights for Dominik Mysterio, even in loss.

March 2 of this year brought Mysterio’s second Intercontinental Championship run to an end with a loss to Penta, another Mexican WWE star who is destined for greatness. WrestleMania 42 saw Mysterio lose to Finn Balor in a Street Fight, with both stars demonstrating why both stars deserve every Mania moment.

After that, though, the decline arguably started, and the trajectory is yet to be righted.

The curse

Let’s preface this by saying that none of what comes next is Danhausen’s fault.

The Judgment Day attempted to get Danhausen to curse Oba Femi, leading to the start of a feud after the Very Nice, Very Evil star didn’t return the $100,000 incentive. Femi would defeat Dominik Mysterio in the King of the Ring 2026 semifinal back in June, with the imposing star going on to win the tournament.

The thought of an actual feud between Mysterio and Femi, with the Judgment Day member obsessing over a star who is seemingly eclipsing him, would be a strong one. It could build to a legitimately highly regarded PLE match for both stars, allowing them to demonstrate the lengths they will go to in their quest for greatness and giving Judgment Day a purpose that doesn’t revolve around what they seem to be doing now.

Instead…

Fans were treated to a “Human Monies” on a Pole match at SummerSlam in August, an outing for Mysterio that took place two years after he had betrayed Rhea Ripley and sided with Liv Morgan in, arguably, one of the most emotional moments on that PLE. Last year’s SummerSlam saw Dominik Mysterio retain the Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles.

Meanwhile…

The main event of AAA Triplemania 34 in September saw Dominik Mysterio lose the AAA Mega Championship in to El Grande Americano, ending a title reign that had lasted 366 days and defined the main roster star to the fans over in Mexico.

It’s little wonder, given the way El Sucio de los Sucios is presented in AAA, that Mysterio would reportedly be ‘frustrated‘ by his WWE main roster booking.

The ‘comedy’ isn’t the problem

Over the years, Judgment Day has mined a rich vein in comedy, whether it be R-Truth and his belief he was a member, Dominik being arrested and becoming a ‘hardened criminal’, the initial tease of the relationship between Mysterio and Liv Morgan, repeated with Roxanne Perez, or the interactions between Finn Balor and Damian Priest as they both prodded their fellow faction members for the sheer humor of it.

It’s not the comedy aspects of the Judgment Day that is the issue. They certainly don’t need to become a serious faction. It’s more that it seems WWE doesn’t know what to do with them aside from the silliness.

Liv Morgan has previously admitted the faction has become ‘stagnant‘, though she’s still enjoying her time there. Perhaps it’s time for Judgment Day to go its own way, allowing each member to be refreshed on their respective journeys, instead of locking them into a declining orbit.
