At WWE Crown Jewel, the rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton finally came to an end when the two faced off in a Last Man Standing match.
After months of Orton tormenting Rhodes and saying he was too afraid to pull the trigger, Cody would end up being the one standing tall, Punting Randy to win the Last Man Standing match.
With Cody picking up the win, there are several potential next directions for the American Nightmare.
Regaining Undisputed WWE Championship
On SmackDown right now, there are many names that are currently chasing the WWE Championship, of which Cody has recently not been among.
However, with him wrapping things up with Randy Orton, the logical next step would be him chasing the title after he was cost the opportunity by Randy Orton during his match with CM Punk.
Sami Zayn has continued to survive with the title against his many challengers, but he and Cody also have unfinished business.
Heading up ‘Team USA’ at Survivor Series
It was announced yesterday that a Traditional Tag Team match would be taking place at Survivor Series this year, the first since 2021.
Rey Mysterio announced that the match would pit Team USA against Team Mexico, with the WWE Hall of Famer and AAA General Manager himself leading Team Mexico into battle.
When it comes to WWE stars that can represent Team USA, there are no more obvious candidates than the American Nightmare himself, who may have nothing else to do on the show otherwise.
Heel turn
The entire story between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton has been Orton attempting to bring an edge out of Cody as Cody continues to go about his career the way he always has.
However, that all changed when Cody would Punt Baron Corbin on SmackDown, with him also Punting Orton tonight at Crown Jewel, proving to the fans and to himself that he can go to that place when necessary.
The crowd was also firmly on the side of Orton in Riyadh, even booing when Cody picked up the win.
For the first time since his return to WWE in 2022, Cody fatigue has very much set in, and even he himself has realised it.
We may have seen the start of the Cody Rhodes heel turn tonight.
