The Young Bucks have named a WWE tag team as the best in the world outside of AEW.

With a litany of tag team championships and renowned matches under their belts, Matt & Nick Jackson have long established themselves as one of, if not the best tag team of their era.

Their time competing in AEW, ROH, NJPW and the independent scene has seen them face-off with a who’s who of tag teams across the world, however, given that they’ve never been signed to WWE, there are also a number of equally legendary duos that they’ve never faced off with on a major stage.

There is perhaps no more notable an example than The Usos, who, like the Bucks, have been winning championships and putting on acclaimed matches together since the 2000s.

During the latest episode of Being The Elite a fan asked who is the best tag team in the world outside of AEW, to which Matt Jackson named Jimmy & Jey Uso.

Matt said:

“I guess you have to say The Usos.

Nick then chimed in, saying:

“For me it’d be unfair to answer that because I don’t really watch anything outside of AEW. AEW has so much content on a weekly basis it’s hard to see anything outside of it.”

Matt then revealed that he and Nick faced off with The Usos in a tryout match whilst backstage at a WWE SmackDown show in 2011, with the 41-year-old recalling how “next level” their skills were even back then, earlier in their careers.

Matt said:

“Years and years and years ago, this was probably in 2011 I believe, we got to go backstage at Smackdown.

“It was prior to the show so all the boys were out there watching and we got to do a sort of like a tryout match in front of the boys and we got to wrestle The Usos, and even way back then those guys were awesome.

“They’re really good, next level. They were calling stuff on the fly and I remember thinking afterward like, ‘Woah, those guys are good, I would really like to have a proper match with them one day.’

“Now fast forward all these years later, it’s probably not possible but hey, I recognize that they’ve done some great stuff.”

Which Other Teams Are In The Best In The World Conversation In WWE?

When it comes to the best teams over the past decade, there is only one who match the résumé of The Usos in WWE, that being their famed rivals The New Day.

While Big E is now retired, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston still must be considered among the world’s best outside of AEW, despite WWE’s questionable booking of them since their heel turn in late 2024.

Again, booking aside, Fraxiom and Motor City Machine Guns are two more teams that have to also be in the conversation when it comes to in-ring skills.

The two teams did get to show off some of what they can do on the March 20 episode of SmackDown, and following Candice LeRae’s interference, it seems as if a heel turn is brewing for Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley – something that could help their chances of reclaiming the WWE Tag Team Titles in 2026.
