A new championship match has been announced for next month’s WWE WrestleMania 42 premium live event in Las Vegas.
Tonight’s episode of WWE Raw saw Becky Lynch address her attack on Women’s Intercontinental Champion AJ Lee last week.
Lynch said that she thought she was finally done with Lee, but went home to her daughter skipping around and singing Lee’s theme music.
Lee herself then came out onto the ramp and said she wants to prove once and for all, one final time, that she’s the best of her generation, and Lynch’s generation.
She then challenged Lynch to a match at WWE WrestleMania to settle the score.
Lynch said that Lee fell right into her trap, and accepted the match.
She also mentioned that the last time Lee had a match at WrestleMania, it was at Mania 31 in 2015, and then she disappeared for 10 years, while Lynch put an end to the Divas division and led the WWE women’s division to the main event of WrestleMania.
Lynch won the main event of WrestleMania 35 in 2019, which was the first ever women’s Mania main event, when she defeated Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair.
Who Should Win AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch At WrestleMania 42
The match between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42 is the third time Lee and Lynch will have faced off since Lee’s return.
Lee is 3-0 in those encounters, which include the mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza, the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, and then their one-on-one match at Elimination Chamber that saw Lee win the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title from Lee.
Ultimately, Lee has been – and will likely continue to be – a part-time talent since her return to the company, and while that isn’t inherently a bad thing, holding a championship while doing so doesn’t always work out well.
Also, Lynch could do with a big boost in momentum right now, and going 0-4 against Lee would be the opposite of that, so she could really do with picking up the win here to get back on track and make sure the Women’s IC Title is well-represented going forward.
