Following reports of his removal from his position as SmackDown’s lead announcer, it has been confirmed who will be replacing Kevin Patrick for this week’s SmackDown on January 26.
As reported yesterday (January 23), a decision was made late on Monday (January 22) that Patrick would be replaced at the SmackDown booth, with the Irishman informed prior to flying into Miami, Florida for this Friday’s show.
The report noted that while Patrick was “liked personally” within WWE, there was a belief that he was not the “not the right person for the role”.
Now, while fans will no doubt be wondering who could potentially take Patrick’s place long-term at the commentary desk, we now know at the very least who will be filling in this coming Friday.
As reported by PWInsider Elite (via Wrestlingnews.co), WWE’s veteran voice Michael Cole will be filling in for the Royal Rumble go-home show alongside traditional SmackDown analyst Corey Graves.
This seems to be a move made out of convenience just for this week as Cole will already be in town for the Royal Rumble which takes place in St Petersburg, Florida.
As for Patrick’s permanent replacement, there is currently no news regarding who could potentially take on the role long-term, nor is there word on his future in the company and potentially receiving a new role.
