Paul Wight, formerly Big Show in WWE, has revealed that he wants to face Kenny Omega and Darby Allin before retiring.
Last competing back in January 2024 on the Chris Jericho Cruise, Paul Wight has recently shared an update on his in-ring career, focusing on what he brings to the table with younger AEW talent.
Clearly not bringing an end to his in-ring career just yet, Wight spoke to Sporf and named two stars he wants to face before retiring, in the form of Darby Allin and Kenny Omega, saying:
“I have two people in AEW that I would love to work with or against. One is Kenny Omega… I would love to see something like that happen before I retire. I would also like to do the same with Darby. I love Darby.
“I think Darby is – no pun intended – tougher than a coffin nail. He’s a tough kid, he’s a good kid, he works hard, his heart is in the right place. I think he’s a little bit fearless with some of the stuff he does, I want to pull him aside like ‘Hey man, hit the brakes a little bit.’ But they’re young, they’re going to go wide open, and I respect Darby for that.
“I would love to be a bad guy and wrestle Darby. I think we could really get a lot of visceral emotion from the crowd, to see a big giant sling Darby’s guts all over the place and then of course we’d have Darby hit me with a couple of coffin drops, roll me in a casket, and that’s the end of it. That would be fun.”

AEW Double or Nothing on May 24 saw Darby Allin’s World Championship reign come to an end with a loss to MJF, who also got to keep his hair as a result of his victory.
The Former Big Show Can Still Go
Earlier this year, Paul Wight shared his progress in the gym, revealing that he was down to 393lbs and aiming to weigh even less, while sharing an impressive photo to support his gym journey.
In-ring action may have slowed down over the previous years, but Wight is clearly not slowing down in the gym, and the idea of the legendary star facing the likes of Darby Allin, Kenny Omega or Will Ospreay as he winds down would be an interesting blend of styles.
Signed with AEW since 2021, Wight hasn’t chased championships, with the aforementioned focus on working with younger talent seeing rewards in something other than shiny belts.
In whatever capacity Wight is used, the reaction he receives from the crowd shows the appreciation the fans still have the WWE Grand Slam Champion.
Perhaps, with the progress he has made and looking towards a future where he does retire, an opportunity exists to make Wight’s hopes a reality.
