Oba Femi has revealed a personal story behind a recent line said during his WWE SmackDown promo segment with Kit Wilson.
“The Ruler” has taken WWE’s main roster by storm since departing NXT in January, putting in a memorable performance in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble, racking up five singles match wins on Raw and SmackDown, and now gearing up for a major one-on-one encounter with “The Beast” Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42.
As well as his physical exploits, Femi has also had the opportunity to showcase his personality and skills on the microphone as well – with his segment alongside Kit Wilson on the February 20 episode of SmackDown being a standout.
During his appearance on the latest episode of What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon, Oba Femi recalled a personal story of being scolded when he fell asleep during one he and his mother’s reading sessions, something he then channeled for his reaction to Kit Wilson’s poetry on SmackDown.
Femi said:
“Me and my mom would always read things together and I just remember falling asleep during one of our reading sessions. She lets me doze off almost like 70% and then she screams out: ‘Read!’ And I remember waking up and panicking.
“To tie that all back together I used the exact same line this past Friday on SmackDown. That was from my mom. That’s a mom exclusive.”

What Could Lie Ahead For Oba Femi Before Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 42 Clash?
Oba Femi’s stunning Fall From Grace Powerbomb on Brock Lesnar will live in the memories of fans for some time to come, with nobody in recent memory manhandling the former 10-time world champion to that extent.
“The Ruler” has been unstoppable since making his WWE main roster debut at the Royal Rumble, and his feat of strength against Lesnar has only raised his stock even higher.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray was among those to heap praise on the segment, highlighting Lesnar’s role in putting Femi over as a major star, writing on Twitter:
“How to make a muthaf**ka in 60 seconds.” -By Brock Lesnar.
While Femi has been rightfully been made to look a dominant presence thus far on the WWE main roster, the company may look to take him down a notch or two ahead of his match with Lesnar.
With Lesnar confirmed for an appearance on next week’s WWE Raw in Boston, MA, we could see he and perhaps even The Vision’s Logan Paul and Austin Theory exact some revenge on the Nigerian star.
However, with Seth Rollins already giving Femi a shout out following WWE Raw, we could perhaps see a new allegiance formed between the veteran and the rising star, with “The Ruler” being a potential game changing ally for Rollins in his mission to take down The Vision.
