A major change has reportedly been made to the WWE roster status of John Cena ahead of his upcoming retirement.
Throughout this year, Cena has been splitting his time between Raw and SmackDown, often based on who he’s been feuding with – although there have been some feuds that have had build across both shows.
With now only eight appearances left, there’s been a big change made to Cena’s status.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, John Cena is now specifically considered a Raw talent within WWE.
Alvarez reported:
“John Cena is on SmackDown tomorrow. WrestleVotes is saying it could be his final SmackDown appearance.
“I can confirm that John Cena, for whatever it’s worth, is now considered a Raw talent.
“I can’t say this is his final SmackDown appearance ever – it very well could be. But he is now going to be a Raw talent.”
As noted, WrestleVotes reported earlier today that some people in WWE believe Cena’s appearance on tomorrow’s September 5 episode of SmackDown could be his final SmackDown appearance ever.
With only eight remaining, the following dates are confirmed for John Cena appearances:
SmackDown (September 5)
Raw (September 15)
Wrestlepalooza (September 20)
Crown Jewel (October 11)
Survivor Series ‘WarGames’ (November 29)
FINAL MATCH – Saturday Night’s Main Event (December 13)
That only leaves room for two other appearances outside of those.
Cena is expected to face Brock Lesnar at WWE Wrestlepalooza. Lesnar is advertised to appear on the September 12 and 19 episodes of SmackDown in the lead-up to that match.
