John Cena has shared his honest thoughts on his first promo after turning heel at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 in March.
With John Cena now back once again as a babyface, the 17-time former world champion has done some reflecting on his turn, particularly his promo on the March 17 episode of Raw in Brussels.
Considering that the promo was Cena’s first as a heel in over two decades, there were high expectations among fans, however, the appearance received a mixed reaction both online and from those in the Forest National arena.
During an appearance at the Chicago Fan Expo (via The Popverse) Cena was asked if he was upset over the reaction to the promo, to which he answered:
“I wasn’t upset. No, I failed, ain’t nothing wrong with that. You can learn from failure, right? I went up there and bombed. Shit happens.”
Cena remained a heel up until the August 1 episode of SmackDown, where he turned babyface ahead of his Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025
After losing his title to Rhodes, Cena has transitioned into a feud with Brock Lesnar, who attacked him in the closing moments of SummerSlam.
While a match with Lesnar is reportedly planned for an as-of-yet unannounced Premium Live Event on September 20, Cena will first take on Logan Paul at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31.
