Back at WWE Backlash in Tampa, John Cena made an appearance on the show, where he announced the creation of the John Cena Classic.
Cena announced no additional information on the John Cena Classic other than that it would be fan voted and feature main roster stars facing off against stars from NXT, much like the Saturday Night’s Main Event show in December featuring his final match.
After months of no information, WWE announced on last week’s show that Cena would be returning to tonight’s Raw show in Brooklyn with more information on the classic.
John Cena Classic taking place on December 14 at Disney World
On the show, Cena came to the ring with a championship podium in the ring, where he promised three major announcements in regards to the John Cena Classic.
The first announcement was the when and where of the tournament. Cena announced that on December 14, two episodes of Monday Night Raw would take place on the same night.
The first episode will take place earlier in the day in Perth, Australia following Wrestlepalooza, with a second episode of Raw taking place later in the night live from Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The Raw show in Orlando will be centred around the John Cena Classic, featuring the matches announced for the tournament.
John Cena Classic Championship revealed
John Cena would then make the second announcement, which was the unveiling of the John Cena Classic Championship, which features his likeness and is designed after the WWE Championship Spinner belt.
Cena also announced that fans will be able to vote on the John Cena Classic through Club WWE, which got boos from the live crowd in Brooklyn.
Cody Rhodes is the first confirmed name in the John Cena Classic
Finally, Cena announced that he would be making several more appearances in the lead up to the show, including at Survivor Series in Houston later this month.
He would also announce the first-ever invitee to the John Cena Classic, before he brought out Cody Rhodes.
It has not yet been confirmed who Cody will face as part of the John Cena Classic, but his participation in the Classic confirms that he likely won’t be part of Wrestlepalooza in December due to the other episode of Raw taking place in Perth that night.
