Over the years, WWE has used the NXT brand to revive the names of former premium live events, with names such as Halloween Havoc, The Great American Bash and No Mercy becoming key parts of the NXT calendar in recent years.

Typically, NXT has run it’s Deadline event in December as the final premium live event of the year, but that will not be the case this year.

On tonight’s NXT Halloween Havoc event, we got the announcement of what would be the final premium live event of the year for the brand.

TLC premium live event to return to NXT

For the first time since 2020, WWE is set to host a TLC PLE, with the show taking place on December 12, the same day as Wrestlepalooza in Perth, Australia, which will take place earlier in the day.

WWE introduced the TLC event back in 2009 during a time when most pay-per-views would be named after specific gimmick matches, such as Hell In A Cell, Money In The Bank and even a Fatal Four-Way pay-per-view.

The final TLC event took place in 2020, which was headlined not by the titular match, but instead by Randy Orton defeating the Fiend Bray Wyatt in a ‘Firefly Inferno’ match.

A TLC event was initially scheduled for December 2021, but was cancelled in favour of the WWE Day 1 event on January 1, 2022.

The end of the Iron Survivor?

The Iron Survivor Challenge has become a fan favourite stipulation on the NXT brand since it’s introduction in 2022.

However, the match has taken place at NXT Deadline since it’s inception, and with NXT Deadline not set to take place this year, it seems as though the stipulation has been shelved for this year.

The match brings a unique feel to any other match on the NXT brand, so if it has been shelved, it is hopefully just for this year and it returns at some point in 2027.

Could the Iron Survivor work on the main roster

Alternatively, the stipulation could be making it’s way up to the main roster after the success it has had on NXT.

However, there are a number of issues with running the Iron Survivor on the main roster, the first being that Paul Levesque is far more protective of his top stars, so the entire concept wouldn’t be as effective if the names are not being pinned as often.

Furthermore, the current main roster’s match formulas have become incredibly boring and formulaic, so a main roster version of the match would likely fall flat due to it’s reliance on in-ring action.

They’d be able to plaster a big sponsor on the penalty box though, so I’m sure we’ll see it soon.
