Jacob Fatu has opened up about he and his family’s relationship with AJ Styles behind the scenes in WWE.
Following his emotional retirement from the ring at WWE Royal Rumble 2026, AJ Styles will take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 42 weekend, as was announced by The Undertaker during Styles’ tribute show on the February 23 episode of Raw.
With Styles being inducted into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame, Jacob Fatu was asked about his relationship with “The Phenomenal One” during an appearance on Bootleg Kev.
Asked whether Styles was a mentor to Fatu when he first arrived in WWE, Fatu responded:
“Oh yeah. Besides everything it was nothing but our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. That was one of the first things AJ will always tap in with. We will pray right before we head out. But AJ seen how much of a family man we was and we cared about our kids and vice versa, he the same way.
“I remember we were overseas and getting it in… We all got our headphones on. (Styles said) ‘Hey uce, good s**t bro. Keep going, keep getting it bro.’ Little stuff like that. And then he be sending me some little 2Pac Christian songs on the side… He like, ‘2Pac baby, just thought about you right now uce, you gotta listen to it.’”

Fatu then recalled Styles imploring Fatu to wrestle shirtless for his first match back from injury at January’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in Vancouver:
“So to have that and then to have when I came back from my teeth bro. I got 11 teeth pulled out when I came back. Back in my first official match Saturday Night’s Main (Event) we opened the show up with Cody. I’m over there doing my thing and I just took off my shirt, I really had to lock in and I always wrestle with a shirt on.
“He was like, ‘Hey bro, what you doing man? You got freaking abs. They’re not abs but they’re showing though.’ Now he kind of made it harder, it’s like, ‘Ok damn I really got to keep these.’

AJ Styles’ Backstage Relationship With The Bloodline Family
Revealing details of Styles’ relationship with his family, Fatu said he knew AJ Styles was a “good brother” due to how he treated his cousins The Usos and Solo Sikoa backstage in WWE.
Fatu continued:
“AJ was always a good brother, not only to me, but just the love, how I see him interact with my cousins The Usos, especially with Jim, Jey and Solo. How I see someone interact with my family, that’s how I know, ok he a good bro. AJ definitely the big homie man.”

With Styles’ in-ring career now over, fans will not get a chance to see “The Phenomenal One” compete against Fatu inside a WWE ring, with the pair never meeting one-on-one during their shared time in the company.
Styles did have plenty of run-ins with other members of The Bloodline family however, most notably Roman Reigns, who Styles feuded with over the WWE Championship during the Spring of 2016 and later in early 2024 during Reigns’ run as the Tribal Chief.
