Impact Preview – March 29, 2018

Editor’s note: Impact Wrestling is taped in advance in front of a live studio audience. With this in mind, results for some or all of the matches featured on the March 29 episode can be found online. However, the following preview is SPOILER FREE.

Oh, Impact… you fill me with such mixed emotions each week. This week we get another title match (technically two I suppose), two big men collide after weeks of build and we get some X Division action. For me, however, I’m most hyped about the chance to see Su Yung in her debut match.

X Division Four-Way Match

Usually, I attempt to make a good guess at the order that we will see things, but this week I really have no idea what will start the show.

The X-Division four-way match between Rohit Raju, Taiji Ishimori, Petey Williams and Suicide perhaps makes the most sense as it is the least “main event” segment in this week’s episode.

I don’t really know how to feel about this match as it seems to have come out of nowhere, and to my knowledge doesn’t have any stakes. While not all matches need stakes, I feel like there’s a lot they can do to build up the X Division for Matt Sydal’s title defense at Redemption.

Su Yung Debut Match

An opponent hasn’t been announced for this match yet, however, following her interesting character reveal last week I am looking forward to this match. This is likely to be a squash, but it’s the segment I’m looking forward to most on the card. There’s not really much more to say, but keep an eye out for this one.

Brian Cage vs. Bobby Lashley

They’ve been teasing this for a while, and finally, we are going to see Cage and Lashley face-to-face in the Impact ring. The two heavyweights are both capable of putting on a good fight, so I’m hopeful for this match.

With the recent rumors circulating that Bobby Lashley is bound for WWE, could this be him going out on a high? Or a low?

Although their recent interactions together have been out of the ring, we have seen a little work from Brian Cage who came out and attacked the fired EC3 at the end of last week’s episode.

Edwards vs. Callihan Continues

Given how things unfolded last week, I have no idea what is going to happen here – however, we have been promised a continuation of the story between Edwards and Callihan, possibly the most exciting story in Impact at the moment.

This week will see Edwards taking the fight to Callihan, as he ‘Goes into the Lion’s Den’. Whatever this means, I for one am looking forward to it.

Matt Sydal vs. Austin Aries – Double Championship Match

It’s as if they heard me last week complaining about random title matches with no build and thought it would be funny to throw this at me (oh I know it’s recorded, shut up!). This is a championship vs. championship match with the winner taking both the World Championship and the Grand Championship.

I am not excited for this, though I feel like I should be. It’s another title match that has come out of nowhere and is only going to devalue Matt Sydal when he fails to win the World Championship from Aries. I don’t know how this match will go because I keep myself spoiler free, but with Aries already set for a title defense at Redemption, I can’t see it going any other way.

Sydal has been on a good run, and it seems foolish to put him in a title match that he can’t win without messing up the planned match between Aries and El Patron at Redemption. I like to keep these previews as a positive place, but come on Impact, get it together.

I want to be excited for this week because we’ve had some really good wrestling as of late. Honestly, though, I approach this episode a little indifferent, which has kind of been the mood in wrestling overall this week so far – That said, I’m open to being surprised.
