Cody Rhodes has commented on WWE fans cheering for Randy Orton instead of himself despite Orton being the one who attacked him.
Randy Orton received heavy cheers when he turned heel on Rhodes, and has continued to do so in the weeks since then, including when he has attacked Matt Cardona and Jelly Roll.
On Busted Open today, Cody Rhodes commented on the positive reaction to Orton instead of him being booed, saying:
“I don’t take it personally. I think maybe when I was younger I did. And certainly, there’s no absolute in that, I’m sure some things kind of slipped through the armor a bit and you feel it.
“But my thought in terms of fans today, more than ever, is that we are out there, and whatever their emotional need is, if they need to cheer for you, if they need to cheer for him, if they need to yell at you – I can’t put a governor on that and I will not.
“Tully Blanchard rules in terms of for me when he’d say, ‘Loudest the longest.’
“I can’t be angry at them, whatever it is they need. If they’re cheering for Randy as he seeks 15 (world titles), even with the things he did, okay.
“I’m not there to try and tell you wrong or right. There’s no wrong way to be a fan.
“So right now, it hasn’t got to me. I’ll be honest, sometimes maybe it will, but right now, no.”

Why Are WWE Fans Cheering Randy Orton
There are numerous reasons that WWE fans right now are cheering Randy Orton and his actions.
Number one is that, more than ever, WWE fans in attendance at shows are hoping to see ‘happenings,’ and a major turn like Orton attacking Cody Rhodes a few weeks ago is a big ‘happening.’
Moreover, as Rhodes mentioned, Orton is on his own island right now as he’s the only active WWE star close to John Cena’s record number of title reigns at 17, behind Ric Flair at 16 and level with Triple H at 14 – again, if Orton picks up a 15th, that would be another ‘happening,’ and would take him one step closer to Cena’s record.
Also, there is a nostalgic element to Orton turning heel, immediately drawing comparisons to the 2009 version of Orton, and fans are happy to get to see that again.
