Cody Rhodes has shared his thoughts on whether GUNTHER will have a home crowd advantage at WWE Clash In Italy.
With this week’s WWE Raw now in the record books, there’s just the SmackDown go-home show before Clash in Italy on May 31.
Rhodes will put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line at Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy, following the revelation that the favor Paul Heyman owed GUNTHER was a move to SmackDown and a title match.
With GUNTHER hailing from Austria and the upcoming PLE taking place in Italy, GUNTHER has recently shared his thoughts on whether he will receive a babyface reaction in Europe for the match, with “The Ring General” predicting an away game of sorts for Cody.
GUNTHER may see Europe as his ‘home turf’, but Cody Rhodes would have an alternative take ahead of their match during an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, saying:
“I don’t think it’s his home turf, this is an Austrian, this is Clash in Italy, they are not the same places. Europe is not a monolith, and I actually think that he’s under the impression that this is gonna be an away game for me. I don’t think that.
“I think Italy will be a crowd like France was: loudest WWE crowd imaginable.”

Rhodes would also address the machinations of Paul Heyman and whether GUNTHER is worthy of a WWE Championship shot, stating:
“I mean, the super genius Mr. Heyman I will never disparage, but I will say it again: he builds them and I beat them, so I’m not really worried about it.”

The May 22 episode of WWE SmackDown saw GUNTHER attack Cody Rhodes after the champion defeated Sami Zayn.
Let’s Hear It For Sami Zayn
The May 22 episode of SmackDown ended with the sight of GUNTHER holding the WWE Championship aloft with Cody Rhodes out for the count.
Sami Zayn, having been defeated by Rhodes moments earlier, looked like he was going to step up to the Austrian, but backed out, eventually leaving the ring and walking slowly back up the ramp.
Turning to face the ring once more, the image of Rhodes ensnared by GUNTHER in Zayn’s line of sight is one that should be played over and over again as the champion weighs up the loyalty of a star he calls a friend.
The crowd reaction to Zayn’s actions was clear, and hopefully there are plans to play off this moment either on the upcoming episode of SmackDown or the post-Clash in Italy landscape.
While he may have played his part in the story between Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER, seeing Sami Zayn in his element as an emotional player of the game was quite the moment in an already bitter feud between rivals.
