Cody Rhodes has addressed the controversy surrounding the nature in which he qualified for the Men’s WWE Elimination Chamber Match.
Heading into this Saturday’s WWE Elimination Chamber premium live event in Chicago, IL, Cody Rhodes stands out as arguably the favorite to win the Men’s Chamber Match and, in-turn, earn an Undisputed WWE Championship shot against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 42.
However, the manner in which Rhodes won his qualifying match against Sami Zayn and Jacob Fatu on the February 13 episode of SmackDown has been a source of controversy.
When Drew McIntyre interfered and attacked both Fatu and Rhodes, Zayn made the save for “The American Nightmare,” only for Rhodes to capitalize and deliver a Cross Rhodes on Zayn to pick up the win.
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, Rhodes dismissed the idea that the win was “controversial” or “underhanded”:
“I wouldn’t say (there is) any controversy because Drew only attacked two people in the match which was myself and Jacob Fatu. I just took advantage of the fact that Sami Zayn turned his back.
“Again, from a sports perspective, the whistle had not blown. Not underhanded in anyway I don’t call that controversial. A decision you’ve got to make that’s all.”

Sami called Cody out for his actions on the February 20 episode of SmackDown, but would eventually apologize after the former two-time Undisputed WWE Champion defended his reasoning for doing what he did.
