Tony Khan has reflected on Adam Copeland & Christian Cage becoming AEW World Tag Team Champions, stating that the duo are red hot right now.
At AEW Double or Nothing on May 24, Adam Copeland & Christian Cage defeated FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) in a New York Street Fight “I Quit” match to become the new World Tag Team Champions.
Speaking to the Toronto Sun, Tony Khan shared his thoughts on the tag team and what it means to see them as champions in AEW, saying:
“Copeland and Christian are red hot right now. It’s the first time they’ve held world tag team championships in many years and it’s the first time they’ve been the World Tag Team champions in AEW.
“To have one of the most legendary teams in the history of pro wrestling come together, that’s special.”
As Edge & Christian, Copeland & Cage were seven-time WWE Tag Team Champions, with Matt Hardy recently sharing his thoughts on his legendary rivals and a hope to face them once again.
A WWE Hall Of Fame Worthy Career Unrecognized
Edge was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2012, with Christian yet to see an induction either as part of a tag team of individually.
Previously, Christian has stated that he “could give two s**ts about the Hall of Fame“, going on to say that there isn’t an actual entity by that name. There may be an argument to be made that he spoke the words as a character, but it is notable that, despite his WWE Grand Slam champion status, he has been omitted.
His last run in WWE took him from 2009 to 2021, seeing more championships added to his history, before he would head to AEW, going on to title success as a World Trios Champion and two-time TNT Champion.
It’s clear that Cage isn’t slowing down when it comes to his in-ring run, with his reunion with Copeland proving to be more than just a nostalgia pop.
His AEW contract makes a WWE Hall of Fame induction an extreme outside possibility, although there’s plenty of road ahead to recognize the former nine-time World Tag Team Champion, two-time World Heavyweight Champion, four-time Intercontinental Champion, two-time ECW Champion, who also held the Light Heavyweight Championship, European Championship, and Hardcore Championship.
More than that list of accolades, Christian was instrumental in defining tag team wrestling for generations to come and showed time and again to be the consummate entertainer that fans continue to enjoy watching to this day.
