Here are six WWE WrestleMania 42 Intercontinental Championship challengers that could be set to take on Penta in Las Vegas.

6. Finn Balor

After being ousted from The Judgment Day, it might be time for a reinvention of Finn Balor.

Able to challenge Penta as a way to reclaim his own identity in singles action, perhaps there could be a battle of the dark forces at WrestleMania 42.

If Finn Balor were to resurrect his Demon iteration, perhaps the shift towards evil would end up bringing a new version of Penta into Penta Oscuro.

Bringing in his own dark character to WWE, Penta could certainly show off even more versatility while facing Balor.

5. Rusev

Nearing his one year anniversary of returning to WWE, Rusev has already engaged in some compelling storylines.

Showing off a new side of his character through a feud with Sheamus, he also had intriguing matches with Sami Zayn and Jey Uso.

Able to take on Penta for a shot at the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42, the move could set up a whole new set of possibilities.

With a Rusev victory potentially paving the way for more babyface challengers to take aim in the year ahead, it could be nearing time for Sheamus and Rusev to go another round.

4. JD McDonagh

While Penta was able to best Dominik Mysterio to capture the WWE Intercontinental Championship, he could soon have another member of The Judgment Day to contend with.

After shockingly joining the rest of Judgment Day in turning on former friend Finn Balor, JD McDonagh could be set for a major opportunity at WrestleMania 42.

Potentially looking to bring gold back to Judgment Day, the Intercontinental Championship could return to the clubhouse even if it wasn’t with “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio.

Able to plant seeds of dissension moving forward with McDonagh seizing the opportunity, the pair of technicians could certainly threaten to steal the show.

3. LA Knight

LA Knight on WWE Raw

With previous rumors that Brock Lesnar could be facing off against LA Knight at WrestleMania 42 ultimately amounting to nothing, it seems an opponent for “The Mega Star” remains unknown.

After Oba Femi had a fiery physical confrontation with Brock Lesnar on the March 16 edition of WWE Raw,  “The Beast” and “The Ruler” will be doing battle in Las Vegas.

Perhaps making way for a different storyline to come together for LA Knight, it could be that he ends up taking part in the rumored multi-man match planned for the title.

While LA Knight continues to target his first WWE World Championship, holding the IC title could be a logical next step.

2. The Original El Grande Americano

One masked man that could be poised to take on Penta at WrestleMania 42 could be The Original El Grande Americano (as portrayed by Chad Gable).

After being out of action due to a shoulder injury since June 2025, The Original El Grande Americano made his return to action at the Royal Rumble 2026 and came face to face with his doppelgänger.

Perhaps equally likely to pop up in the rumored multi-man match would be El Grande Americano (as portrayed by Ludwig Kaiser).

With a fun twist on the match to see both Bravo and Rayo Americano (Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne respectively) continue to play a heavy hand in the luchador’s success, there could be some intriguing new battles on the way.

1. Je’Von Evans

WWE star Je'Von Evans

One potential opponent for Penta could be the remarkable 21-year-old, Je’Von Evans.

Making a big impact since joining the main roster, WrestleMania 42 will be Evans’ first on the main roster, and he’s a likely candidate to feature in a notable match.

With Penta and Je’Von Evans being able to put on an intriguing display of both technical skill and high flying abilities, this match could throw the convention of babyface vs. heel out the window.

Since both stars are rather well loved, it could be that the in the end the Las Vegas crowd gets the unique experience of wanting both men to capture victory.
