Back during the WWE WrestleMania 41 Night One pre-show, WWE announced the acquisition of legendary Mexican promotion – Lucha Libre AAA.
While the completion of the deal has yet to be 100% confirmed, it certainly seems as if AAA is now a WWE property.
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that there will be changes in the company, including the creation of a Performance Center in Mexico, with trainee luchadores from this point being taught WWE’s house style as well as lucha libre.
Another change will be the permanent inclusion of WWE stars on the AAA roster; below are six stars we could see make the full-time transition to the promotion.
6. Dragon Lee

Dragon Lee is no stranger to AAA, appearing for the lucha libre company throughout 2021-2022.
In fact, it was in a AAA ring that the luchador announced his signing with WWE – in controversial fashion, Dragon Lee won the AAA Tag Team Titles from AEW team FTR alongside partner Dralistico, before vacating the titles and announcing his move to WWE, a move AEW owner Tony Khan has since described as a “double cross.”
However, his run in WWE has arguably been a disappointing one, as one of the top free agents in all of pro wrestling upon his signing, he has been underutilised and under-pushed, despite his role in Rey Mysterio’s LWO.
This may be about to change as Dragon Lee is set to feature in the main event of TripleMania, AAA’s big show of the year, on 16 August, challenging for the AAA Mega Title – a victory could see him make the full-time move to WWE’s Mexican promotion, potentially becoming its top star.

5. Natalya

Another WWE star set to appear at AAA’s biggest show of the year, TripleMania, is Natalya.
The 43-year-old is set to challenge for the AAA Reina de Reinas Title, in a three-way against champion Lady Flammer and Faby Apache.
This follows a successful debut in the promotion on 25 July, where she joined fellow WWE star Lola Vice in defeating Chik Tormenta & Dalys and Faby Apache & Lady Shani in a three-way tag match.
This year has seen Natalya attempt to reinvent herself, appearing outside of WWE on the indies in GCW and the NWA, and a victory at TripleMania could see this goal come to fruition as she moves full-time to WWE’s Mexican promotion.

4. Andrade

Andrade returned to WWE last year after a stint in AEW.
Yet, with the exception of his recent pairing with Rey Fenix, his second run with WWE has been underwhelming, with a sustained push or direction never materialising.
Andrade first made his name in AAA’s rival CMLL as La Sombra, famously losing his mask in one of the great mask vs. mask matches against Atlantis in 2015.
The 35-year-old remains an incredible worker, with the charisma and recognition in Mexico to be AAA’s top star – a move to the promotion must certainly be on the cards.

3. Lola Vice

NXT star Lola Vice has already been on a brief excursion to AAA.
Since debuting at the WWE / AAA crossover show World’s Collide in June, she appeared three times for the Mexican promotion in July.
Only three years into her career, she is not yet a name that carries much weight in Mexico, but a full-time move could serve a dual purpose: both aid in her in-ring development and bolster AAA’s currently shallow women’s division.
A full-time move to AAA for the 27-year-old could be expected.

2. LWO (Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde)

Since Rey Mysterio’s unfortunate groin injury suffered the night before WrestleMania 41, his LWO faction has been left directionless.
Mainly appearing on B-level main event shows, the LWO did have a standout match at the WWE / AAA crossover show World’s Collide.
Faction members, Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde, however, remain a super talented tag team – Del Toro a natural luchador with Wilde adeptly working the style.
With little for them to do on WWE’s main roster, a move to AAA promises an increased spotlight.

1. Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio, despite his groin injury keeping him out of the ring, is set to appear at AAA’s TripleMania show on 16 August.
On the show, he will induct current AAA booker and legendary figure Konnan into the AAA Hall of Fame – an apt move, given it was Konnan who inducted Mysterio into WWE’s own Hall of Fame in 2023.
Mysterio’s own career is wrapped up with the Mexican promotion; it was AAA that first gave Mysterio a national platform when he debuted for the promotion in 1992.
Whether or not he makes a full-time move back to the promotion where he first found fame, we can expect the 50-year-old to wrestle in AAA when he returns from injury.
