When John Cena first announced his retirement tour last year, CM Punk wasted no time expressing his desire to face his old rival one final time.
Still, it shocked many when WWE confirmed on the 9 June edition of Raw that Punk would challenge Cena for the Undisputed Title at Night of Champions — given Punk’s past publicly stated antipathy to wrestling in Saudi Arabia.
With the bout set for June 28, Punk may need backup, as Cena has regularly aligned himself with others during this reign: both Logan Paul and Travis Scott.
Here are five WWE stars CM Punk could turn to for support in his feud with Cena.
5. Ron Killings (R-Truth)

On the 13 June edition of SmackDown, John Cena and CM Punk went back-and-forth on the microphone ahead of their Undisputed WWE Title clash at Night of Champions.
The promo battle came to an end when Ron Killings appeared and attacked Cena, locking him into his own patented STF submission.
Punk appeared to anticipate the attack, emphasising “the truth” about Cena moments before Killings emerged.
Given Punk’s vocal support for Killings after WWE initially decided not to renew his contract, are we now seeing the beginnings of a formal alliance between the two – united against Cena?

4. Jimmy Uso

While his brother has been pushed to the top of the card, Jimmy Uso has felt largely directionless over the past year.
He’s been racking up losses and mostly appearing in backstage skits alongside R-Truth before his recent transition into the more serious Ron Killings persona.
On the 13 June edition of WWE SmackDown, John Cena confronted Uso, demanding to know Killings’ whereabouts.
Given Uso and Killings’ interactions, perhaps both men could unite on next Friday’s SmackDown and help CM Punk end Cena’s destructive title reign?

3. Aleister Black

Another performer currently lacking direction is Aleister Black.
Since returning to WWE after WrestleMania, he’s been locked in a mid-card feud with The Miz and Carmelo Hayes and failed to qualify for both the Money in the Bank ladder match and King of the Ring.
Aligning him with CM Punk could give Black the rub and spotlight he’s been missing since his return for AEW.
It would also lay the groundwork for the thrilling prospect of a singles match – with the pair having once shared the ring in a standout trios bout between House of Black and CMFTR on AEW Collision in August 2023.

2. Tavion Heights

Tavion Heights has emerged as one of NXT’s standout prospects.
The 27-year-old former amateur wrestler appears to be following Myles Borne’s lead by breaking out of the No Quarter Catch Crew faction, with a main roster call-up potentially in his future before too long.
With charisma, presence, and clear in-ring talent, Heights has unlimited upside.
Aligning him with CM Punk and placing him in the John Cena storyline would catapult Heights straight into the upper echelon of WWE stardom.

1. Sami Zayn

Arguably the most likely candidate to join any potential CM Punk faction based on recent storylines is Sami Zayn.
The two have been loosely aligned since last November’s WWE Survivor Series, competing together in WarGames.
Most recently, they teamed up again at Saturday Night’s Main Event to face Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins.
As Punk’s feud shifts from Rollins and Heyman’s faction to John Cena, could we now see Zayn formally join his side and join the Best in the World in his fight to “save wrestling”?
