With WWE announcing that Sheamus is now out of the Last Time Is Now tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent, he will need a replacement.
From others who were in the tournament to some surprises that would just be fun to see, there are some definite possibilities for who could take over Sheamus’ spot in the bracket.
Here are six WWE replacements for Sheamus in the Last Time Is Now tournament.
6. Rey Mysterio
Sheamus appeared on WWE Raw in a big way this past week, teaming with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to take on the Judgment Day trio of Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.
While the babyfaces captured victory on the show, it would end up being revealed on November 21 that Sheamus was medically unable to continue in the tournament due to a shoulder injury.
With John Cena set to face Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series 2025, it might be the perfect swap to have Rey Mysterio tap into the Last Time Is Now tournament.
Having missed much of 2025, Mysterio could end up going all the way in the tournament and putting on an amazing last match with John Cena.

5. Randy Orton
Randy Orton has been absent from in-ring competition in WWE since losing alongside Cody Rhodes in a tag team match against The Vision’s Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
While he still has unfinished business with Drew McIntyre, perhaps he could actually make his return to TV as the replacement for Sheamus in the Last Time Is Now tournament?
Able to not only compete in the tournament but end up making it to at least the finals against GUNTHER, Orton could reveal that he had been a heel all along and even take responsibility for the attack on Jacob Fatu — or not, The Viper has options.
Having Cena’s final farewell in WWE at Saturday Night’s Main Event give a nod to Randy Orton as well as start a rivalry amongst heels with GUNTHER — the OG Legend Killer could prove that he’s in WWE to stay.

4. Austin Theory
Austin Theory was reportedly set to participate in the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series on the heel team before Seth Rollins was taken out of action due to injury.
Potentially leaving a spot for Austin Theory to return to take over the vacancy created by Sheamus’ injury — we could still see a showdown between Theory and Cena after all.
Given Theory’s past history with Cena at WrestleMania 39, it’d be a fitting way to reintroduce the former United States Champion, who could then re-establish himself as a star for the future with a lengthy stint in the tournament.
Whether a babyface or heel, Theory has a lot of potential and just needs the right storyline to return.

3. Joe Hendry
One NXT/TNA Wrestling star that didn’t make his way into the Last Time Is Now tournament is Joe Hendry.
However now that Sheamus is out of action, it could be that Hendry tags in and takes up another once in a lifetime WWE opportunity.
Already having a magical WrestleMania 41 debut against Randy Orton after Kevin Owens was pulled from the original bout with Orton due to injury — Joe Hendry is already well versed in delivering in high pressure situations.
Definitely able to enter the tournament and become the Cinderella story fans want to see on the road to the end of John Cena —he could continue the swell of support that Sheamus had been receiving.

2. Ricky Saints
While Ricky Saints is currently the NXT Champion, he certainly may not be long for the Performance Center if his current trajectory continues.
Having conquered both the NXT North American Championship and the NXT Championship since joining NXT, his next stop could very well be the main roster in the future.
Seizing the vacancy in the tournament left by Sheamus, Saints could get a massive introduction to the main roster audience through a match in the Last Time Is Now tournament.
Not someone who particularly needs to advance in the tournament, the exposure and the experience on the main roster would be a great test for Ricky Saints.

1. Shinsuke Nakamura
In the first round of the Last Time Is Now tournament, Shinsuke Nakamura was eliminated after his first round match against Sheamus.
However, now that Sheamus is no longer able to to compete it could be that Shinsuke Nakamura comes back into the picture.
Another person knocked out of the first round was Damian Priest after he took on Rusev.
Potentially able to determine Sheamus’ replacement by putting Nakamura up against Priest, either one advancing would be a safe way to fix the situation.
