WWE Legends To Sign With AEW

Since AEW’s inception in 2019, the company has signed a slew of WWE legends.

Names like Jim Ross and Taz joined the commentary booth, Paul Wight (Big Show) took a backstage role, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Arn Anderson arrived as on-screen managers — while modern icons like Bryan Danielson came to revitalise their careers and became AEW legends in their own right.

But who could be next? Here are seven WWE legends who could soon sign with AEW.

7. AJ Styles

There has been recent speculation around AJ Styles‘ WWE contract and what the 47-year-old’s next move might be.

Could a high-profile move to AEW happen?

Few wrestlers fit AEW’s in-ring ethos better than Styles – arguably the forefather and innovator of the hybrid style that defines the promotion.

AEW feels like a natural place for Styles to end his legendary career – whether it happens remains to be seen.

6. Beth Pheonix

WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix

Beth Phoenix is a WWE Hall of Famer who has long been linked with a move to AEW.

Phoenix is married to AEW star Cope, and while she ended her full-time career in 2012, she’s wrestled sporadically over the years – including in mixed tags alongside her husband in WWE.

Could we now see the Hall of Famer join the company, perhaps getting involved in Cope’s longstanding feud with former partner Christian Cage?

5. Carlito

Carlito recently vanished from WWE programming after the company opted not to renew his contract.

This decision came despite his consistent role on TV as a part of the one of the company’s most prominent factions – The Judgment Day.

AEW could seize the moment and bring him in while he’s still fresh in fans’ minds.

4. Ronda Rousey

WWE star Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey remains one of the most iconic female athletes in history – a UFC and WWE champion and participant in the first ever women’s main event at WrestleMania.

Since her WWE departure in October 2023 following a second run with the company, Rousey hasn’t fully walked away from wrestling.

Not long after her WWE departure she made sporadic appearances alongside longtime friend Marina Shafir, including one in Ring of Honor.

With Shafir – and perhaps soon Shayna Baszler – in AEW, could the combat sports and WWE legend be the next major name to sign with the company?

3. X-Pac

WWE Hall of Famer X-Pac

Sean Waltman as X-Pac is one of the most legendary characters from WWE’s Attitude Era.

While no longer active in-ring, Waltman hasn’t walked away from wrestling entirely either, recently appearing at TNA’s Rebellion PPV where he accompanied The Rascalz, getting physically involved in the action.

Despite still being in incredible shape, he may not return as a wrestler, but there seems to be a role for him in AEW, perhaps managing a young up-coming tag team.

2. Kurt Angle

In June 2022, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle claimed that AEW had offered him a wrestling contract – one he turned down, stating, “I just can’t do it anymore.”

While an in-ring return seems off the table, Angle remains one of the most legendary and entertaining personalities in modern wrestling history.

There are multiple creative ways AEW could make use of the Olympic gold medallist outside of performing in-ring.

1. Mick Foley

Given Mick Foley’s love for all things pro-wrestling, it’s perhaps surprising he hasn’t already appeared in AEW.

Firmly retired from in-ring action, Foley remains one of the most beloved and entertaining figures in the industry.

His charisma and mic skills make him a natural fit for recurring on-screen roles as a manager, authority figure, or commentator.

Signing a legendary figure like Foley would be a massive win for AEW.
