With moves becoming more common than ever in recent years, there could be some former WWE Tag Team Champions set to return to WWE.

Whether for a sustained run inside the ring, or perhaps just for a Hall of Fame induction – we could see some of these names back on WWE programming in the future.

Here are six former WWE Tag Team Champions that could re-sign with the company.

6. The IInspiration

One pair of former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions that could make a WWE return is The IInspiration (fka as The IIconics in WWE).

Currently back in action in TNA Wrestling, the duo have recently captured the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship since their return to the company after taking time off to start families.

With reports that their contracts with TNA Wrestling have expired and rather they are appearing without a long-term agreement, the duo could potentially make their way back to WWE.

Appearing on NXT during the recent crossover events, fans were clearly thrilled to see the duo again and perhaps they’ll appear on the main roster again soon.

5. The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff Hardy)

A TNA Wrestling duo that is apparently set to be out of contract with the company soon is Matt and Jeff Hardy, the legendary Hardy Boyz. While they have appeared in numerous crossover bouts with NXT stars, they have yet to make their way into in-ring action back on the main roster.

With rumors that they could be making their way back to WWE, it might be that the duo have their own upcoming retirement tour planned.

Absent from the WWE Hall of Fame, Matt Hardy has commented that he is hopeful that the pair reunite in WWE once again for one more run.

Certainly making for an incredible surprise, in the event the fan favorite pair do make an in-ring return in WWE it will certainly be met with delight.

After departing WWE in 2020, Matt Cardona went on to undergo a complete character reinvention across professional wrestling.

Appearing in many indie promotions as well as TNA Wrestling and AEW, Cardona has more recently made several big returns to WWE.

After taking part in the TNA Wrestling invasion angle on NXT, Cardona would go on to have a singles match on NXT against Josh Briggs before being brought in for a special surprise.

Joining the Last Time Is Now Tournament as Zack Ryder, perhaps there could be a path forward to Matt Cardona to return to WWE’s main roster as well.

3. Chris Jericho

After losing the ROH World Title to Bandido at AEW Dynasty in April, Chris Jericho made a dramatic exit from AEW TV in an on-screen temper tantrum.

Originally speculated as time off to accommodate his band Fozzy’s tour dates, with each passing season Jericho’s absence became more and more conspicuous.

With rumors swirling that he could be headed back to WWE, Jericho himself hasn’t ruled out the possibility.

Potentially being reserved for a Royal Rumble surprise in Riyadh, Chris Jericho is reportedly set to end his obligations to AEW at the end of 2025 — making him potentially able to pop up at the first anniversary edition of WWE Raw on Netflix on January 5 instead.

2. Paul Wight

One former WWE tag team champion that remains under contract with AEW is Paul Wight, who is most commonly seen now as a panelist during AEW Zero Hour pre-show’s ahead of pay-per-view events.

While his most recent comments in May 2025 noted he was still under contract with AEW, many fans are hopeful that he perhaps could return to WWE in the future.

Still absent from the WWE Hall of Fame, The Big Show would certainly be a worthy inductee in the future.

Perhaps able to make one last in-ring return in WWE, or simply transition to a different role entirely, The Big Show would be a very fun return for fans.

1. Christian Cage

Well regarded for being a multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion, Christian Cage has been on one of the best runs of his career in AEW since debuting for Tony Khan’s promotion in March 2021.

While his counterpart Adam Copeland has been firm that his contract with AEW is likely his last as an in-ring performer, there hasn’t been the same assertion from Cage.

Seemingly poised to reunite on-screen with Copeland as the pair could face off against the current AEW Tag Team Champions FTR, there is still a conceivable future where Christian Cage makes his way back to WWE, either with or without his tag team partner.

Possibly bringing his singles character work to a brand new era in WWE, or returning alongside Cope for a final WWE sendoff, it would be fascinating to see Christian Cage tangle with the current cast of WWE stars.
