On the February 21 edition of WWE AAA on FOX, AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio and El Hijo del Vikingo signed the contract for their title match for the upcoming Rey de Reyes event on March 14.
Setting the terms for this bout, Mysterio stated that Vikingo will never get another shot at the AAA Mega Championship if the champion retains, while Vikingo stated that ‘Dirty Dom’ must leave Lucha Libre AAA if he loses.
Now with these stipulations added, it begs the question who WWE might choose to replace Mysterio if he does in fact loses the title on March 14 in Puebla.
Here are seven potential WWE Dominik Mysterio AAA replacements.
7. Ethan Page
In 2025, Ethan Page started to appear in Lucha Libre AAA, including capturing the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship alongside Chelsea Green.
On the February 28 episode of AAA on FOX, ‘All Ego’ will compete in a Rey de Reyes four-way qualifying match against El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr, Omos and Pimpinela Escarlata.
If Dominik Mysterio is leaving the company, it might be best for someone with experience in the promotion to easily transition into his position.
While he remains a big part of WWE NXT, AAA would benefit from having Page move up the card and become a potential replacement for ‘Dirty Dom’ if he loses at Rey de Reyes.

6. Rusev
In April 2025, Rusev made his return to WWE after a five year absence from the promotion.
‘The Bulgarian Brute’ is someone who could have played a pivotal role as a possible main event player on Monday Night Raw or Friday Night SmackDown.
After a nearly a year being back in the company, it seems clear that WWE does not have prominent plans for Rusev right now.
Rusev being transitioned to Lucha Libre AAA could see him become a monster heel on that roster where he may be a top star for them moving forward in the place of Dominik Mysterio.

5. Matt Cardona
On the January 2 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Matt Cardona made his return to WWE after five years away and became part of the blue brand.
The former Zack Ryder is someone who made a name for himself all over the world during his time away from WWE.
Despite just recently making a comeback, it seems like Cardona is not going to be a main event star on the SmackDown brand at this time.
It might be better for Cardona as well as Lucha Libre AAA where he could easily become a key player in Mexico especially as a replacement for Dominik Mysterio if he loses the Mega Title.

4. Johnny Gargano
On the January 31 edition of SmackDown, Axiom defeated Johnny Gargano. Due to this loss, Gargano was forced to return Axiom’s mask back to him.
After losing the mask and his DIY tag team partner Tommaso Ciampa, fans have seen a more depressed version of Gargano who seems hopeless at the moment.
With Candice LeRae looking to get Gargano back on his feet, she could open the door for her husband to make his debut in Lucha Libre AAA.
Gargano is one of the most underrated in-ring performers on the WWE roster and could be someone the company looks to have fill the void left behind by Dominik Mysterio if he loses the AAA Mega Championship.

3. The Miz
While he has one of the most impressive resumes of anyone on the WWE roster, The Miz has found himself playing a lesser and lesser role on the company’s programming.
The two-time WWE Champion feels like he has more years behind than ahead of him at this time.
Despite still being a consistent character on Friday Night SmackDown, The Miz could be better utilized elsewhere.
Fitting the bill as a former world champion and someone who can step in for Dominik Mysterio easily, The Miz feels like a star that checks every box necessary to mix it up with the top stars in Lucha Libre AAA moving forward.

2. Aleister Black & Zelina
Another former WWE star who recently made his return to the company over the past year is Aleister Black.
During his feud with Damian Priest, Black joined forces with his wife Zelina Vega to form a sinister duo.
With Black’s dark persona and impressive in-ring ability combined with Zelina’s talking skills, it makes sense for this act to make a debut in Lucha Libre AAA.
Black and Zelina could make for formidable main event pairing if they were to replace Dominik Mysterio on AAA moving forward.

1. Chad Gable
Back at WWE & AAA Worlds Collide: Los Angeles 2025, El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Chad Gable to retain the AAA Mega Championship.
Since then, fans have not seen Gable himself back on AAA programming, although he has returned as The Original El Grande Americano and played a pivotal role in recent weeks.
The former Olympian is one of the best technicians in all of WWE and has everything it takes to become the AAA Mega Champion.
Considering his history with luchadors, Gable could be a wonderful heel to feature in Lucha Libre AAA in the place of Dominik Mysterio.
