Will Ospreay defended the AEW World Championship for the first time at All Out, defeating Jon Moxley to walk out of Chicago with the company’s top prize.
In the post-show media scrum, Ospreay called for a title defense against Kazuchika Okada, which has since been confirmed for AEW Grand Slam France.
Ospreay stated that he has losses on his record that he wants to rectify, and that he wants to defend the AEW World Championship against competitors he previously came up short against.
If Ospreay remains champion beyond October 6, there are a number of loose ends for the Aerial Assassin to tie up from the top of the AEW mountain.
Here are three more stars Ospreay could defend the AEW World Championship against, who he has previously been bested by.
Darby Allin
In addition to Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay named Darby Allin specifically during the media scrum as a star he’d like to defend the AEW World Championship against.
The duo have faced off once in singles competition, meeting in Gold League action in the Continental Classic tournament on the December 18, 2024 Dynamite episode.
With Darby Allin scoring the victory in this bout, it makes sense that Ospreay wants a rematch, under different circumstances.
With Allin currently holding the TNT Championship, he could be the exclamation point following a string of other champions challenging for the AEW World Title, following Continental Champion Jon Moxley and International Champion Kazuchika Okada.
Josh Alexander
Ahead of officially joining WWE, Will Ospreay and Josh Alexander had an incredible duology of matches in TNA Wrestling.
On the November 16, 2023 edition of iMPACT, Ospreay defeated Alexander in a hardfought encounter which got the wrestling world talking.
The rematch aired on the January 18, 2024 episode, with the Aerial Assassin losing to the former TNA World Champion in a match which Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer awarded 5.5 stars.
With Ospreay and Alexander having one win apiece, many would welcome a third match, which could take place in AEW, for the company’s top title.
Ricochet
Ricochet is perhaps Will Ospreay’s greatest rival, with the duo trading wins all over the world, for a variety of promotions.
AEW acknowledged their history by having Ricochet appear during Ospreay’s entrance at All In London, but that doesn’t mean these two stars can’t stand opposite one another in a title match in the future.
Ricochet won the duo’s most recent singles encounter, getting the better of the Aerial Assassin during the Continental Classic tournament, on the December 21 Collision episode.
If Will Ospreay is looking to renew a previous rivalry, his feud with Ricochet would be an interesting choice.
