Heading into AEW All In London 2026, the company introduced a new tournament called the Continental Challenge Cup.
A spiritual successor to the Continental Classic, this tournament puts the AEW Continental Championship front and center once again.
This is a single-elimination tournament with no time limits and no outside interference with the winner receiving the Continental Cup and Championship.
With the tournament finals set to take place at Wembley Stadium, the field is down to the final eight.
Looking at the remaining participants, no one has more focus on them than Nigel McGuinness.
The AEW commentator once again came out of retirement, feeling inspired by Kenny Omega’s AEW World Title win and his countryman Will Ospreay headlining the Wembley Stadium event to enter this tournament.
Wanting to turn back the clock, McGuinness looked to prove he still has it.
In the first round, the former ROH World Champion picked up a win over Katsuyori Shibata on the August 15 AEW Collision.
Immediately following this win, it was revealed that McGuinness had suffered an injury, making his status unknown for the rest of the tournament.
This begged the question if Nigel McGuinness would even continue to compete.
Nigel McGuinness cleared to continue in the Continental Challenge Cup & now all eyes on him
On the AEW Continental Challenge Cup Quarterfinals Selection Special, Nigel McGuinness stated that he was in fact hurt, but he would not withdraw from the competition.
Considering his injury, this should make McGuinness a focal point of the remainder of the tournament.
McGuinness will now face Hechicero in the AEW Continental Challenge Cup Quarterfinals on the August 19 episode of AEW Dynamite.
With this scheduled bout, it feels like McGuinness might be able to get by the Don Callis Family member.

After this match, McGuinness will only be one win away from the Continental Cup Finals at AEW All In London 2026.
The Continental Cup sees Jon Moxley defending the AEW Continental Championship in the tournament.
Moxley has been a fighting champion for much of his reign and looks to prove that here.
While McGuinness will face Hechicero, Moxley goes one-on-one with Jay White in the Continental Cup Quarterfinals.
Despite this tough test, Moxley has long felt like the odds-on favorite to win this tournament.
With all the focus and conversation regarding Nigel McGuinness, it feels like AEW has set the stage for a compelling Finals.
At 50 years old, Nigel will look to show everyone that he still has something left in the tank by making it to Wembley Stadium.
After losing in his first Wembley match two years ago, McGuinness might have all the motivation to win the Continental Cup at AEW All In.
Does Nigel McGuinness have enough to beat Jon Moxley in the Continental Cup Finals?

Outside of Claudio Castagnoli and Eddie Kingston, there might not be anyone who knows Jon Moxley better in the Continental Challenge Cup tournament than Nigel McGuinness.
Being an AEW commentator, McGuinness has been ringside for some of Moxley’s biggest matches in the past few years.
The former ROH World Champion has more knowledge on Moxley’s game than most.
However, McGuinness would walk into a potential Continental Cup Final against Moxley at AEW All In London 2026 with an injury.
Considering how unstoppable he has been in 2026, Moxley might be too much for McGuinness to handle when the lights are brightest.
Despite the injury and his age, Nigel McGuinness feels likely to make it even further in the Continental Challenge Cup tournament.
With a bout on the Wembley Stadium card, all the stars have aligned for McGuinness to have his first singles match in the historic building on August 30.
While Moxley has been an unstoppable force, Nigel’s Cinderella story.in the Continental Cup could be completed at AEW All In London 2026.
