With Shane McMahon attending John Cena’s final WWE Raw at Madison Square Garden, fans will naturally be wondering if he could potentially make a return to the company.
While there is plenty of unfinished on-screen business for Shane McMahon, he could also end up creating an entirely new character for himself on WWE programming.
Here are five potential ways that Shane McMahon could return to WWE.
5. Inducted Into WWE Hall of Fame
The first announced induction into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2026 so far has been Stephanie McMahon.
With her history both as an on-screen character and a corporate contributor behind the scenes, the nod makes complete sense.
There is also a solid case to be made for why Shane McMahon’s contributions as an in-ring performer deserve to be considered for induction as well.
Responsible for some of the wildest stunts in WWE history — including jumping off of the top of the Hell in a Cell, Titantron and others — his feuds with some of WWE’s biggest names like the Undertaker and AJ Styles remain fan favorites as well.

4. Hired By The Final Boss
One intriguing way to bring Shane McMahon back into the on-screen fold would be for him to be appointed to a role by The Rock.
With The Final Boss character being the ultimate heel but Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is literally on the TKO Board of Directors — making his blend of fiction and reality particularly compelling.
Able to do a classic corporate move — send a proxy to do his dirty work — The Final Boss could certainly install Shane McMahon as his personal emissary in week-to-week WWE affairs.
With McMahon wielding a power that supersedes that of Triple H, it could be an amazing new spin on their familiar old rivalry.

3. Heel Takeover
While it was Shane McMahon who famously was involved in the original ‘Invasion angle’ between WCW and WWE in 2001, perhaps he could return soon for the latest iteration.
With NXT, AAA in Mexico as well as continued invasion storylines with TNA Wrestling — there could definitely be a dastardly on-screen role able to be revived for Shane McMahon.
Already becoming a definitive ‘nepo baby’ with his original on-screen character during the Attitude Era, McMahon could definitely resurrect a heel authority role.
Taking control of an entire brand — or at least attempting to, perhaps through a hostile takeover — Shane McMahon could refresh his character as a truly obnoxious heel.

2. Shane O’Mac Farewell Tour
Shane McMahon could return to WWE and follow in the footsteps of John Cena with a pre-announced retirement tour of sorts.
Considered an innovator in his willingness to take his stunts and matches to extremes, Shane McMahon still has some familiar foes that he could tangle with in WWE.
Taking on the likes of former opponents The Miz, AJ Styles or even potentially mixing it up again with Chris Jericho — there could be some very interesting stories to be told.
Potentially a draw for nostalgic fans looking to see major moments, if McMahon wanted to compete in the ring for a series of bouts — it could be quite enjoyable to watch.

1. Get Retired By GUNTHER
GUNTHER seems to be growing a reputation as a modern day legend killer over the past year.
Having already been the final opponent for Goldberg, a bout that GUNTHER won back at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July — there is continued speculation that he is about to add another big name to the list.
Reportedly set to be the winner of the Last Time Is Now tournament to determine who would be the last to face John Cena, it would seem that GUNTHER would be slated to win that match as well.
Able to add a McMahon onto his list of legendary names that he takes out of competition, there could be a very fun WrestleMania program between GUNTHER and Shane McMahon leading to the latter’s final match in WWE.
