AEW currently has seven active championships — nine if you include the Continental and International Titles, which remain unified — and there may soon be more, with growing speculation around the long-overdue introduction of a Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Six of those seven titles are set to be defended at this weekend’s Forbidden Door PPV, with the one exception being the Trios Championships — though even they could be on the line after seeds were planted on the 20 August Dynamite for a clash between champions The OPPs and NJPW’s Bullet Club War Dogs.
With so many belts in play, it seems almost certain that we’ll see at least one title change take place at the PPV.
And even for the championships that don’t switch hands this weekend, it’s only a matter of time — so with that in mind, WrestleTalk predicts who will be the next champion for each of AEW’s titles.
AEW World Championship – MJF

At Forbidden Door, Hangman Adam Page will defend his AEW World Championship against MJF.
Given the progression of the storyline, with MJF still holding his guaranteed contract for a future title shot beyond this match, it seems unlikely that he walks out with the belt on Sunday.
However, the very existence of that contract suggests this heated feud is far from over, with MJF almost certain to cash it in and use it to defeat Hangman in the near future.
A second AEW World Championship reign for MJF feels inevitable — and it seems likely that he will be the one to dethrone Page.

AEW Women’s World Championship – Mercedes Mone

At All In Texas, AEW promoted the biggest women’s match in its history — a clash between AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm and the undefeated Mercedes Moné.
The match lived up to the hype with Storm retaining her title; yet, there looks to be far more mileage left in the rivalry between the promotion’s two top female stars.
Storm is now set to defend her championship against Athena at Forbidden Door, and it seems likely she will retain — defeating the ROH Women’s Champion.
With Moné now aligned with Athena in storyline terms, a Storm victory at Forbidden Door could naturally set the stage for their feud to resume, with Moné likely to get another shot at the title — and potentially dethrone Storm at one of AEW’s three remaining PPVs this year.

TBS Championship – Queen Aminata

Mercedes Moné has now held the TBS Championship for over a year, winning the title back in May 2024.
At Forbidden Door, she defends it in a four-way against AEW’s Alex Windsor, CMLL’s Persephone, and Stardom’s Bozilla — while she doesn’t have to be pinned to lose, it still feels unlikely that her reign ends in this match.
That said, with her reign passing the one-year mark, it feels like only a matter of time before Moné drops the title — and ideally, it should be used to elevate another woman into the upper tier of AEW’s roster.
One name who seems perfectly placed for that spot is Queen Aminata: the charismatic 32-year-old has become incredibly over with AEW fans and is rapidly improving in-ring, and beating Moné for the title would firmly establish her as one of the company’s top female stars.

AEW Unified Championship – Konosuke Takeshita

Don Callis Family member Konosuke Takeshita has had an incredible year so far.
Regarded by many as 2025’s wrestler of the year, his bonafide classic with Bandido at ROH Supercard of Honor strengthened that claim — and on 17 August he cemented it further by winning New Japan Pro Wrestling’s prestigious G1 Climax tournament, putting on a slew of incredible bouts and becoming one of the promotion’s top stars in the process.
As well as his rise in NJPW, Takeshita now looks poised for the same ascent in AEW, with subtle hints of tension expressed between himself and fellow Callis Family member — and Unified AEW Champion — Kazuchika Okada.
It seems inevitable this will culminate in Takeshita breaking away, turning babyface, and ultimately defeating Okada for the title.

AEW Tag Team Championship – Brodido

The Hurt Syndicate seem long overdue to lose the tag titles they captured in January, but a recent report from Fightful claimed that MVP had “rubbed a lot of people the wrong way” backstage in AEW, refusing for the team to drop the belts to certain opponents.
At Forbidden Door, the champions will defend the belts in a three-way against Brodido — Brody King and Bandido — and FTR.
Intriguingly, FTR were one of the teams MVP reportedly refused to lose to.
If those claims are accurate, it seems increasingly likely that Brodido will be the team to dethrone The Hurt Syndicate at the PPV.

TNT Championship – Mark Briscoe

One of the best in-ring rivalries of the past year has been between Kyle Fletcher and Mark Briscoe.
The two have clashed three times since last December, most recently at April’s Dynasty PPV, with each one proving an outstanding bout.
At Forbidden Door, Fletcher defends his TNT Championship against NJPW’s Hiromu Takahashi — but it seems unlikely the junior heavyweight will dethrone him, and no clear next challenger is lined up.
Given their recent history and Briscoe’s overwhelming popularity, AEW could reignite the feud, with Briscoe finally capturing his first title in the company at one of 2025’s remaining PPVs.

AEW Trios Championship – Ricochet & The Gates of Agony

One of this year’s biggest revelations has been Ricochet’s heel turn in AEW, with his transition to pro wrestling’s proverbial dark side bringing out a new level of charisma from the 36-year-old star.
In recent months, the now-hateable Ricochet has aligned himself with the talented tag team Gates of Agony, forming a new faction together.
While there’s been no firm storyline direction yet, it seems likely this trio will soon target the AEW Trios Championships.
A showdown with The OPPs could see Ricochet and the Gates of Agony dethrone the champions and claim their first titles in AEW.
