Old WWE Championship To Return

There are a number of WWE championships that have gone by the wayside over the years but could see themselves re-introduced soon.

Across developmental and the main roster, there are some titles that would make a good re-addition to their respective divisions.

Here are five old WWE titles that could potentially make a return.

5. Heritage Cup

Noam Dar was a record four-time Heritage Cup Champion

It appears the WWE Speed Championships may be on their way out of NXT as Wren Sinclair faces Zaria at Heatwave to unify the Women’s Speed and Women’s North American Titles.

If NXT does do away with both the men’s and women’s Speed Titles in the coming weeks, it could make way for the Heritage Cup to return.

Originally introduced in NXT UK, the Heritage Cup was determined in old school rounds matches, with notable holders including Noam Dar, Tyler Bate, Charlie Dempsey, Nathan Frazer, Lexis King, inaugural champion A-Kid (Axiom), and final holder Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo.

It disappeared after Tony D’Angelo stole it from Stacks and threw it off a bridge – with the likely real reason being that NXT couldn’t factor in both Heritage Cup and Speed matches – so if the Speed matches are a thing of the past, perhaps the Heritage Cup could come back into play.

4. Evolve Tag Team Championship

The Street Profits won the Evolve Tag Team Championship in 2018 from Doom Patrol

WWE Evolve debuted in March 2025 as a developmental show below the level of NXT, introducing both men’s and women’s titles – currently held by Harlem Lewis and Nikkita Lyons respectively.

However, well over a year later, there still isn’t an Evolve Tag Team Championship.

In the pre-WWE days of Evolve, the promotion did have some involvement with NXT as the Street Profits won the Evolve Tag Team Title in 2018.

With other former titleholders including Drew McIntyre and Ethan Page (separately, not together), there are enough duos in Evolve now to justify the reintroduction of a tag title to the brand.

3. Cruiserweight Championship

Since the WWE acquisition of AAA last year, there has been plenty of crossover between the brands with luchadores becoming a regular part of Raw and SmackDown.

This has includeed Rey Fenix defending his AAA Cruiserweight Championship since winning it from Laredo Kid.

WWE could pretty much utilize the Cruiserweight Title as a WWE-wide championship – whether by name or not – with Fenix defending it against both luchadores and smaller competitors in general.

2. NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship

In 2023, the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship was somewhat inexplicably unified with the WWE main roster Women’s Tag Team Title when Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler defeated Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.

Since then, the NXT women’s division has continued to get better and better, and the number of alliances that have been formed would mean it’d make plenty of sense to reintroduce a tag title to the division.

There really isn’t a good reason that the much weaker men’s division has a tag team title and the women’s division doesn’t.

1. People’s Chamionship

WWE star The Rock

In 2024, The Rock played a huge part in the WrestleMania main event storyline between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.

During that year’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony the night before Mania, The Rock was presented with the People’s Championship belt by the widow of Muhammad Ali.

After Rhodes defeated Reigns in the Mania main event to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, Rock and Rhodes had a confrontation on Raw where they physically swapped belts, which seemed to tease a future major match between the two.

That match has yet to happen, and time is running out, but WrestleMania 43 may be where Rock returns to action and we could see him bring the People’s Title back into play.
