One of the biggest stories of this past week in pro wrestling has been Chris Jericho’s contract situation.
The star’s AEW deal expires at the end of the year, and speculation about a WWE return has become intense — fuelled further when Jericho himself liked an Instagram post regarding the idea.
If the 54-year-old does make his way back, he would surely begin with a singles run, though given his age it seems inevitable that at some point he’d transition into the tag division.
That’s something Jericho has done many times before during his prior runs in WWE, teaming in the past with Kevin Owens, Christian, The Big Show, and even The Rock — but who could be his next partner?
5. AJ Styles

Chris Jericho was AJ Styles’ first feud when Styles debuted in WWE in 2016.
Before Jericho’s heel turn out of storyline jealousy, the two even briefly teamed together, challenging The New Day for the Tag Team Titles.
If Jericho does return to WWE, both men could look to rekindle that partnership, as a beloved veteran babyface team.
No longer the singles standouts they once were, Jericho and Styles could still form a dream tag team between two of the best in-ring wrestlers of the past 30 years.

4. Ethan Page

If Chris Jericho returns to WWE as a heel, he could look for an equally irredeemable star to partner with.
Few on the roster fit that description better than Ethan Page, the NXT North American Champion and a quintessential despicable heel.
Both men are also Canadian, opening the door for a team built around the classic America vs. Canada trope seen multiple times over in wrestling’s past with the Fabulous Rougeaus, the Un-Americans, and Team Canada.
While perhaps not a main event role for Jericho, a comedy heel pairing with Page would undoubtedly be entertaining.

3. Myles Borne

In AEW, Chris Jericho’s long-term partnership with Sammy Guevara as Le Sex Gods gave legitimacy to the younger star and undoubtedly helped get him over.
A WWE return could give Jericho the chance to play a similar role with one of the company’s younger talents, offering both the “rub” in front of fans and guidance behind the scenes.
NXT’s Myles Borne could be an ideal candidate — at just 26, he is fast becoming a polished in-ring worker with growing charisma, someone who could benefit hugely from a veteran’s support.
If Jericho does return, we could well see him take a rising star like Borne under his wing.

2. Cody Rhodes

In 2022, Cody Rhodes made his dramatic return to WWE, becoming the first of AEW’s founding fathers to cross the aisle — and in doing so, establishing himself as WWE’s top star.
Chris Jericho, meanwhile, has arguably been AEW’s most famous performer and its inaugural World Champion, and while his return wouldn’t be quite as seismic as Rhodes’, it would still be significant.
Given their shared history with WWE’s biggest rival, what better way to make a statement than pairing them together?
Perhaps not as a full-time team, but an on-and-off dream pairing between Rhodes and Jericho would be huge for WWE’s fanbase.

1. Kevin Owens

Chris Jericho’s last major storyline in WWE came alongside Kevin Owens, beginning as an odd-couple tag team before collapsing into a heated feud.
Their on-screen chemistry was electric, and the pairing became one of the most popular acts in 2016 — a creative highlight in a period when WWE was often struggling in that regard.
With Owens currently sidelined by a long-term neck injury, a reunion wouldn’t be immediately possible if Jericho were to return.
However, if Owens recovers and Jericho does come back, the return of their odd-couple partnership seems an inevitability.
