In January, Ava officially left WWE after her contract expired and left the NXT General Manager position available.
This led to Shawn Michaels naming Robert Stone the interim WWE NXT General Manager.
Eventually, Michaels and WWE will have to determine who will be the permanent NXT GM at some point down the line.
Here are seven potentially new permanent WWE NXT General Managers.
7. Robert Stone

As previously mentioned, Robert Stone has become the interim WWE NXT General Manager and has maintained control on Tuesday nights.
Stone is someone who got his start in WWE as a manager for the Robert Stone Brand, placing him in the corner of stars like Chelsea Green, Aliyah and Von Wagner.
Over the past few years, Stone has gained a reputation as a reliable on-screen character that works in this authority figure role.
After proving himself in an interim position, it would make sense for Shawn Michaels to make Stone the permanent WWE NXT General Manager down the road.

6. Booker T

Back in 2022, Booker T became one of the voices of WWE NXT alongside Vic Joseph.
Recognized as one of the more polarizing commentators in WWE today, Booker has done a good job of getting over different young stars on the roster.
Working in the Performance Center every week has led to Booker having an influence on the careers of several members of the NXT roster due to his experience and background as a trainer.
Wanting to try him out in a different role, Booker T is someone who has the credibility and resume to be a legitimate authority figure and permanent WWE NXT General Manager.

5. Danhausen

At WWE Elimination Chamber 2026, Raw and SmackDown General Managers Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis opened the mystery crate to reveal former AEW star Danhausen.
Equipped with a brand new theme song and personalized dancers, Danhausen received all the pomp and circumstance needed to present him as a major new star.
Then on the March 2 episode of WWE Raw, the ‘Very Nice, Very Evil’ star gave a list of demands to Pearce after his debut received a “thunderous reception.”
With WWE possibly looking to use him as more of a non-wrestling act, it would make sense for the company to place Danhausen as the NXT General Manager where he can play off all the different personalities on the brand.

4. Wade Barrett

Someone who has plenty of experience on WWE NXT in several different roles is Wade Barrett.
During the first season of the reality competition version of the show, Barrett was crowned the first winner of NXT.
Then in 2020, Barrett became a color commentator on the show and helped to establish different stars as well as storylines.
Despite his current role as announcer on the main roster, Barrett could be used as the WWE NXT General Manager where his talking ability and experience might be better utilized by the company.

3. Robert Roode

Both Raw and SmackDown General Managers Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis were originally hired by the company to be backstage producers.
Looking at the current list of backstage producers, there might not be anyone better suited for the permanent WWE NXT General Manager role than Bobby Roode.
Roode made his WWE debut on the NXT brand and it didn’t take him long to capture the NXT Championship.
After everything he accomplished on the brand, it feels like a no-brainer to bring Roode back to an on-screen role by naming him the permanent WWE NXT General Manager.

2. AJ Styles

At WWE Royal Rumble 2026, GUNTHER defeated AJ Styles to retire ‘The Phenomenal One’ from in-ring competition.
Then on the February 23 episode of WWE Raw, Styles said goodbye to the fans, had an emotional speech thanking his wife and family, received a standing ovation from the locker room and was surprised by The Undertaker with a Hall of Fame announcement.
Now that Styles is done as an in-ring competitor, he has confirmed he will stick around WWE in a backstage capacity and wants to help young talent on the rise.
Styles going down to NXT and becoming the new permanent General Manager makes a ton of sense as someone the talent as well as the audience would accept as a newly christened authority figure.

1. CM Punk

Ever since making his return to WWE, CM Punk has taken a liking to the NXT brand in a significant way.
Setting the groundwork for what he wants to do when his in-ring career is over, Punk seems destined to work on the NXT brand and Performance Center in some capacity.
Roman Reigns even mentioned as much in his promo against Punk on the March 2 edition of WWE Raw.
Punk becoming the permanent WWE NXT General Manager might just be the first role that ‘The Best In The World’ may take on the brand when he is done being the World Heavyweight Champion.
