New AEW Death Riders Leader

Share

AEW's Jon Moxley with Samoa Joe and Claudio Castagnoli

With Jon Moxley continuing on an unprecedented losing streak for him in AEW, there could be a new leader coming for the Death Riders soon.

Seemingly losing his grip on reality after continued losses, Moxley may maintain that he is still on top of the mountain but his faction the Death Riders doesn’t seem entirely convinced.

Here are seven potential new leaders to take over Jon Moxley’s role in the AEW Death Riders faction.

7. Claudio Castagnoli

The seemingly most likely replacement for Jon Moxley could be the sole remaining member of the OG Blackpool Combat Club, Claudio Castagnoli.

While Moxley continues to seemingly lose his grip on reality with the more losses he experiences, it might have to be Claudio that slaps him back into reality.

Able to step into the leadership role of the Death Riders without a ton of impact to the storyline, Castagnoli wouldn’t be doing a hostile takeover of the group as much as being forced to step up as Moxley falls down.

Claudio Castagnoli remains a quiet force to be reckoned with and could be headed for a brand new version of his character to emerge soon.

6. Gabe Kidd

Already a member of the Bullet Club War Dogs in NJPW, it seems Gabe Kidd is practically an honorary member of the AEW Death Riders at this point.

Joining frightening forces with PAC to inflict damage on Darby Allin, Kidd seems to fall perfectly in line with the Death Riders goal of creating chaos and havoc in AEW.

Becoming the new leader of the Death Riders, Gabe Kidd could end up switching up how the group operates.

Ditching any semblance of honor, a new Gabe Kidd-led Death Riders could end up causing even more anarchy than Moxley.

5. Bryan Danielson

Just because Bryan Danielson is retired from in-ring competition absolutely doesn’t mean that he couldn’t be the leader of a faction.

Similarly to how William Regal engaged in no physicality when he was the effective leader of the Blackpool Combat Club, so too could Danielson take back the reigns of the violence based faction from Moxley.

With the group able to effectively oust Moxley from the group in favor of the leadership of Danielson, it would lead to an interesting on-screen dynamic.

Possibly still appearing on commentary, there could be a slow build to a reveal about whether or not Danielson was seeking to redeem the group or take it over to redeem himself.

4. Eddie Kingston

Eddie Kingston AEW

While Eddie Kingston has laid out a challenge against AEW World Champion Samoa Joe in the face of the latter’s recent heel turn — it might be intriguing to see Kingston link up with the Death Riders.

Possibly joining under the guise of having a shared enemy in Samoa Joe, Eddie Kingston could fall in with the Death Riders to seek revenge on The Opps.

Able to take down the group from the inside, there could definitely be a big reveal in the future that Kingston was working with the babyfaces all along.

With Kingston a solid additional AEW pillar to take up the fight along with Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page, it would be fun to see the unlikely trio come together in the end.

3. Don Callis

Known in AEW as a wheeler and dealer, it could actually make sense to Don Callis broker a deal to see his Family acquire the dastardly Death Riders.

Since most of the AEW heels are seemingly already affiliated with the Don Callis Family, joining forces with the unpredictable Death Riders could pose an even bigger threat to the rest of the roster.

With some potential defectors coming up from the Family (namely a possibly babyface turn from Konosuke Takeshita), there could be room for expansion.

Bringing together some of AEW’s heaviest hitters, it could end up that no one in the company was safe from the combined forces.

2. Marina Shafir

If Jon Moxley continues to seemingly lose his grip on his abilities and potentially, his sanity — perhaps he already has the perfect second in command ready to take over.

With Marina Shafir having been a force in the Death Riders throughout their run already, she could definitely pick up the reigns from Mox to continue to mission.

Potentially able to assume the role of the group leader if Moxley was to disappear for a period of rest and reflection, it would be a fascinating dynamic between the group.

With some members possibly set to fall in line with others looking to defect, there could be an even more compelling set of questions when Moxley inevitably returns.

1. Samoa Joe

With Samoa Joe having taken a clear turn to the dark side and bringing the rest of The Opps (Powerhouse Hobbs, Katsuyori Shibata & HOOK) along with him — perhaps a blending of heelish forces could happen.

Bringing together some of AEW’s most violent talent could end up being an unholy alliance that would prove even more difficult to fight together than separately.

Proving to be a united force against the likes of Hangman Adam Page, Swerve Strickland and The Conglomeration, the super group of The Opps & the Death Riders under Samoa Joe’s leadership would be legendary.

Able to effectively dominate the AEW roster, there would of course be a future falling out between the groups that led to all out heel civil war — which would also be a lot of fun.
