After capturing the WWE Grand Slam that eluded him by winning the Intercontinental Championship, John Cena’s next moves are unknown.
Potentially set for a re-match, an entirely new opponent or perhaps participating in his first and only career WarGames match — there are some intriguing ideas of what John Cena might be doing at the upcoming PLE WWE Survivor Series.
Here are six potential plans for John Cena at WWE Survivor Series 2025.
6. Joining Babyface WarGames Team
Currently the Survivor Series WarGames teams are shaping up but there seems to be several intriguing vacancies.
With originally reported plans tapping Roman Reigns to join the All-Star squad, there have already been changes with the addition of Cody Rhodes.
Now potentially set to see CM Punk, Jey Uso and Rhodes team up with John Cena to take on The Vision, the fifth babyface spot could go a number of ways.
With Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Jimmy Uso or even a surprise NXT recruit filling the last spot for the squad — the team could end up being anchored by CM Punk and John Cena.

5. Rematch With Dominik Mysterio For Intercontinental Championship
John Cena was able to best Dominik Mysterio to capture the WWE Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw on November 10, completing his WWE Grand Slam.
Possibly set to challenge Cena for a re-match for the IC title at Survivor Series WarGames, Dominik could look to sweeten the deal to get Cena to accept by offering up his AAA title in the bout.
Since Mysterio continues to hold the AAA Mega Championship, he could also end up putting that title on the line as well — making Cena a AAA Champion before retirement as well.
While it would probably make the most sense for Dom to just move on and feud with Rey Mysterio over the AAA Mega Championship — we’ll have to see if Cena gets away that easily.

4. Last Time Is Now Open Challenge
With the excitement surrounding potential surprise entrants in the Last Time Is Now tournament to determine who will be Cena’s final opponent, perhaps his final PLE will offer a chance for one last open challenge.
Considered a major element in his career, John Cena was a fighting champion when he held the United States Championship — offering open challenges that resulted in memorable moments and matches.
While Cena has the Intercontinental Championship, he could definitely use Survivor Series WarGames to offer up one more mystery opponent a shot at the 17x World Champion before retirement.
Potentially a last opportunity for an outside WWE surprise like Matt Cardona, Matt or Jeff Hardy, Nic Nemeth or even Kofi Kingston — who has never faced Cena one-on-one before — the buzz would certainly be high as fans waited to see who could appear.

3. John Cena vs. Joe Hendry
One name that continues to come up in fan theories regarding who could possibly be a surprise opponent for John Cena is Joe Hendry.
With not all the names revealed yet for the upcoming Last Time Is Now tournament to determine Cena’s final opponent at Saturday Night’s Main Event, there is still a chance that Hendry could be included.
However if he weren’t in the tournament, he could still pop up as a surprise foe for John Cena at Survivor Series.
Already having a major moment as a surprise opponent for Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41 — Hendry could be poised serve as the babyface counterbalance to the evil GUNTHER in the years to come — making him a perfect opponent for John Cena.

2. John Cena vs. Sheamus For Intercontinental Championship
Now that Cena has conquered the Intercontinental Championship and captured his first WWE Grand Slam — he stands in between one of his legendary rivals doing the same.
Sheamus is another WWE star that despite their long and illustrious career has not ever captured the IC title.
Preventing Sheamus from completing his WWE Grand Slam, the IC title remains top of mind and perhaps will cause him to re-ignite a rivalry with John Cena.
Able to put on an amazing match, the pair of veterans could end up mixing it up one last time before Cena retires even without a Survivor Series showdown. Sheamus continues along in the Last Time Is Now tournament, advancing after besting Shinsuke Nakamura int he first round.

1. Firefly Funhouse Match With Wyatt Sicks
One notable bout in John Cena’s career was his WrestleMania 36 cinematic match against Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Funhouse.
With Cena going on to reveal in subsequent years that the match remains one of his all-time favorites, having written the script by hand from start to finish — there could be one last chance to make some cinematic magic.
While Cena has faced a number of intriguing opponents in his farewell tour, he has yet to come face-to-face with the Wyatt Sicks — an experience that could be played out as a longer exposition of Cena’s career.
Able to reference feuds old and new, wrap up and hanging questions regarding his 2025 heel turn and just generally leave creative space for Cena to throw it all against the wall before he departs competition — seeing Cena craft his own farewell cinematic match could be amazing.
