WWE has announced that there will be a “Last Time is Now Tournament” to determine who will be the final opponent of John Cena.
With the field yet to be announced but WWE claiming it will be “chosen at random,” and containing stars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT and some that “don’t even work here,” there are certainly a lot of intriguing options of who could end up being Cena’s final opponent.
Here are five potential final WWE opponents for John Cena.
5. Jeff Hardy

In what could come together to be a cathartic moment for both nostalgic favorites, perhaps Jeff Hardy will end up being John Cena’s final WWE opponent.
With the Hardy Boyz having made recent appearances in NXT as a part of the brand’s crossovers with TNA Wrestling, it has been noted for quite a while that the legendary pair will be free agents in the near future.
Cena’s final opponent being Hardy could serve as the ultimate redemption arc for Hardy, but moreover, a continuation of Cena’s legacy into another legendary retirement storyline.
With Matt and Jeff Hardy able to take up the mantle of the next farewell tour for fans to enjoy, it could be fated for Cena and Hardy to go one-on-one one more time.

4. Dominik Mysterio

One WWE star that seems set to tangle with John Cena between now and Cena’s final match is Dominik Mysterio.
Since Mysterio was able to retain the Intercontinental Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event against both Penta and Rusev, it could be that he and Cena are meeting in December as a rematch.
Potentially propelled to join the tournament to determine Cena’s last opponent if Mysterio loses the Intercontinental Championship to Cena at Survivor Series, it could be Mysterio’s last chance to get back the title before Cena retires.
Putting over Dominik Mysterio – arguably the most popular and marketable heel that WWE has seen in a long time – on his way out of the company could be the perfect final piece to Cena’s in-ring legacy.

3. Brooks Jensen

Recently showcasing himself as a wrestling historian, perhaps Brooks Jensen could bring even more history to the tournament by looking to avenge John Cena’s actions from decades ago.
Jensen will surely have his own in-depth explanation, but the very abbreviated version is that Brooks Jensen’s father Bull Buchanan was on-screen security for John Cena before the duo broke up in dramatic fashion with Buchanan being released shortly thereafter.
Jensen’s beef is referenced elsewhere in WWE cannon, with Buchanan having returned for an episode of Raw in November 2011 where he reported to Cena that the events “ruined his life” during Mick Foley’s This Is Your Life segment directed at Cena’s past misdeeds.
Seemingly a potential Cinderella story that could come out of nowhere, Brooks Jensen could use his social media savvy to get his way into the tournament and perhaps even win it.

2. Mike Santana

With Mike Santana currently holding the TNA Wrestling World Championship, he could make for an exciting addition to the tournament and surprise winner.
His compelling real-life backstory of overcoming adversity in addition to his current success in TNA Wrestling could provide an amazing combination of factors to propel Santana in the tournament.
With other possible surprises from TNA Wrestling that could join the field of the tournament such as Joe Hendry and Matt Cardona also being fascinating idea, it could be the perfect time for Santana.
Able to benefit from the nod and make it look cool, even in defeat – Mike Santana would be an amazing final opponent for Cena.

1. Charlie Dempsey

A son of industry legend William Regal, Charlie Dempsey could be the right choice for the final WWE opponent for John Cena.
Able to enter the tournament as a potential outlier and go on to capture hearts and minds by winning the whole thing, Dempsey could also come with the boost of an appearance from William Regal.
With Regal having his own complex history with John Cena, it could make for an interesting nostalgic moment rolled into a nod to the future of the industry.
Another potential opponent that could easily lose to Cena and still get a maximum benefit to their career for having participated in the match, Charlie Dempsey could be a powerful final opponent for Cena.
