In the wake of successfully defending the Undisputed WWE Title at Backlash, John Cena’s retirement tour rolls on.
His final match is going to take place at TD Garden in Boston this December – reportedly at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
One question remains: will Cena still be champion by then? Another – perhaps even bigger – is who will be his final opponent?
Here are five potential final challengers for John Cena in his final WWE match.
5. Randy Orton

John Cena and Randy Orton faced off in their 24th singles match at Backlash.
As the standard-bearers of the Ruthless Aggression Era, theirs is a rivalry that, for many fans, defined a generation of WWE.
Both are company legends and future Hall of Famers – their careers are so deeply intertwined that it’s impossible to separate one from the other.
With that in mind, there are few opponents more fitting for Cena’s final match than his forever-rival, Randy Orton.

4. R-Truth

For years, it’s been a running gag in WWE that R-Truth, despite being five years older than John Cena, describes Cena as his “childhood hero”.
Cena’s unprovoked attack on Truth at the Backlash press conference suggests the pair will soon be heading for a match.
It is likely, however, that the two will bury the hatchet before Cena’s eventual farewell.
And is there a more emotional send-off than R-Truth being the final opponent in the career of his “childhood hero”?

3. Bron Breakker

Bron Breakker becoming a Paul Heyman Guy and aligning with Seth Rollins is as strong an indication as any that WWE has major plans in store for the heir to the Steiner dynasty.
Heyman – famously selective with his endorsements – clearly sees Breakker as “the next big thing”.
And with Breakker now rubbing shoulders with top-tier talent, there are few better ways to cement his superstardom than by defeating a legendary figure.
A potential passing-the-torch moment against John Cena in Cena’s final match could be exactly the kind of career-defining victory that launches Breakker into the stratosphere.

2. Cody Rhodes

Cena’s threats to retire as “the last real champion” suggest that this storyline could last through to the final night of his retirement tour in Boston.
If he holds onto the title until that date, it seems likely that Cody Rhodes will be the one to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Given the way Cena cheated to defeat Rhodes at WrestleMania, it makes sense for Rhodes to be the man to eventually take back the title.
As the natural heir to Cena’s position as the top babyface in the company, it’s only fitting that Rhodes should be the one to beat him on his way out.

1. Jacob Fatu

One of John Cena’’s most celebrated rivalries during his WWE career was against the late Umaga.
This was a feud that produced what many consider his greatest match: the Last Man Standing bout at Royal Rumble 2007.
Given that legacy, it would be a fitting full-circle moment for Cena to bow out against Umaga’s nephew, Jacob Fatu.
A brutal, drawn-out war with Cena going out on his shield would be the perfect send-off – a tribute to both his storied career and the Samoan lineage that helped define it.
