Former WWE Tag Team Champions to re-sign with the company: Will the company bolster its struggling tag division?

One of the biggest complaints about WWE in 2026 has been its mishandling of the tag team division.

Whether it’s the men, women, Raw, SmackDown or NXT, tag team wrestling feels like an afterthought right now, and that has been the case since the company split the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles up at WrestleMania 40.

With improvements desperately needed, let’s see what former WWE Tag Team Champions the company could potentially bring in to help bolster their division.

Dragon Lee

Now, Dragon Lee is of course already a member of the WWE roster, but his deal is reportedly due to be coming up in the near future, hence his placement on this list.

Lee held the WWE World Tag Team Titles with AJ Styles in late 2025, and since ‘The Phenomenal One’ hung up his boots and gloves, Lee has been competing on his own on Monday Night Raw. However, that could soon change.

Along with Lee’s contract expiring, it is being reported that his brother Dralistico is nearing the end of his AEW deal as well. If WWE wants to boost their tag division they should do everything they can to retain Dragon as well as snap up Dralistico if he hits the free agent market.

FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler)

Again, this may seem a puzzling choice at first given that FTR are one of AEW’s top tag teams and just days away from competing in a three-way ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Titles at All Out.

However, it was reported back in May that FTR are approaching their contract option year in AEW, with WWE said to have “preliminary interest” in signing the pair.

As mentioned, FTR are doing just fine right now in AEW and are a key part of what is easily the best tag team division in wrestling, so it’s difficult to see them give that up for WWE. But you never know, perhaps FTR fancy one last run in WWE in an attempt to right the wrongs of their first tenure before they step away from the ring for good.

The Hardy Boyz

Given that they reportedly signed new long-term TNA Wrestling contracts late last year, it’s unlikely we see Matt and Jeff Hardy arrive in WWE in 2026, or perhaps even 2027. However, a return to where they began their careers does feel somewhat inevitable.

Matt and Jeff have spoken openly about wanting to wrap their journey up at WWE with a Hall of Fame induction, and that will surely happen. But depending on how far down the line their arrival comes, they could potentially also have one last run in the ring as well.

They can still go, as evidenced by their exploits in TNA over the past year and their brief return to WWE via NXT in the fall of 2025, and even if it’s just a short-term run en route to a final match at WrestleMania it’d be nice to see The Hardys roll back the years on the biggest stage once again.
