With several familiar faces linked to a WWE return soon, perhaps some former NXT Champions could be set to re-sign with WWE also.

From recent champions as a part of the crossover with TNA Wrestling, to others who haven’t held NXT gold for quite some time — there are definitely some fan favorite names that could be making their way back to WWE in the future.

Here are six former NXT Champions that could re-sign with WWE.

6. Indi Hartwell

One potential re-signing WWE could make is former NXT Women’s Champion and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, Indi Hartwell.

After being released from WWE in November 2024, Indi Hartwell competed for several indie promotions before making her return to TV via TNA Wrestling.

Having popped back up during the recent crossovers between TNA and NXT, it would seem that WWE fans have not forgotten about Indi Wrestling.

Someone that could potentially reach higher heights after returning to the company than she did on her last run on the main roster, Indi Hartwell is still a star to watch for.

5. Dolph Ziggler

Despite being an established main roster talent for over a decade, Dolph Ziggler did also have a notable run as NXT Champion back in 2022.

Capturing the title by beating Bron Breakker and Tommaso Ciampa in a triple-threat match in NXT, he would successfully defend it against Breakker and LA Knight.

Currently wrestling in TNA Wrestling under his real name Nic Nemeth, there was recently a brief return of Dolph Ziggler to WWE.

Entering the Last Time Is Now tournament to determine who will be the last opponent for John Cena, Ziggler returned to WWE for a match against Solo Sikoa at Madison Square Garden. Clearly still beloved by fans, perhaps Ziggler will re-sign with WWE in 2026.

4. Paige

Becoming the inaugural winner of the NXT Women’s Championship back in 2013, Paige would go on to make history as a 2x WWE Divas Champion as well.

While she retired from in-ring competition before her time with WWE came to a close due to injury, she would later return to in-ring action in AEW as Saraya in 2022.

Since departing AEW in September 2024, fans continue to wonder if there could be a return from Paige on the horizon.

With the returns of Nikki Bella and AJ Lee in 2025, perhaps it will be Paige who makes a surprise return in the coming year in WWE.

Picking up both the NXT Championship and the NXT North American Championship in 2020, Keith Lee is a former NXT star that fans continue to hope will return to action soon.

Recently responding to fans’ persistent inquiry about the likelihood of his return, Lee offered a new detail that has encouraged his Limitless fans.

Back in September, Lee responded to a fan noting: “I’ll take a moment to reassure you that a return to the ring will certainly happen. Though I won’t posit how or when.”

Last appearing in AEW in December 2023, Keith Lee’s current contract status is not clear but some fans remain hopeful that he could re-sign with WWE one day in the future.

2. Karrion Kross

Perhaps the most highly requested WWE re-signing of 2025 was Karrion Kross.

During his first run in WWE, Kross held the NXT Championship twice, but his success on the main roster never lived up to those heights across both runs in the company.

Unfortunately, just as Kross was building momentum and a passionate fanbase, he his wife Scarlett would depart WWE in August 2025 at the end of their contracts, with fans’ “We Want Kross” chants falling on death ears from WWE.

Still leaving the door open for a return in the future, it would be a fun surprise to see both Karrion Kross and Scarlett make a return to WWE in the future.

1. Matt & Jeff Hardy

While clearly The Hardy Boyz are legends from WWE in their own right, in the Fall of 2025 they added another accolade to their list of achievements.

Capturing the NXT Tag Team Championship for the first time in their careers, the duo may be the most likely to return to WWE in the near future.

With the Matt & Jeff commenting publicly that they are hopeful to have one more run in WWE before the end of their careers, it could be that the duo heads back ‘home’ before receiving a well deserved induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

With The Usos reunited and already picking a fight with The New Day, one team who could join the field might just be The Hardy Boyz.
