On the September 24 edition of Dynamite, the long-speculated AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship was finally revealed.

The belts were introduced by CEO Tony Khan, who confirmed they would be coming very soon.

It now seems inevitable that a tournament will be announced to crown the inaugural champions.

The big question is: which two women will become the first holders of the gold? Here are six potential first AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions.

6. Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa

At All Out, Toni Storm lost the AEW Women’s World Championship in one of the biggest upsets in the division’s history.

Her next direction remains unclear, however.

One possible storyline option is teaming with frequent partner Mina Shirakawa to chase the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship.

For inaugural champions, few names would be more high profile than the division’s biggest star in Storm and the hugely over Shirakawa.

5. Skye Blue & Julia Hart

Sisters of Sin, the team of Skye Blue and Julia Hart, are one of AEW’s longest-standing women’s tag teams.

Their partnership dates back to December 2023, making them the second-longest aligned duo in the division, behind only Anna Jay and Tay Melo.

Alongside Thekla, they form the Triangle of Madness faction and have been given significant prominence on AEW programming.

They will undoubtedly be in the running to become the inaugural Women’s World Tag Team Champions.

4. Mercedes Moné & Athena

Mercedes Moné met Athena in the semi-final of the Owen Hart Cup in April in what was considered by many as a dream match.

The bout lived up to the hype, and the two later teamed together on Dynamite in August against Toni Storm and Alex Windsor.

Once again they delivered a standout performance, showing clear chemistry as a team.

Both big stars in their own right, there may be no more high-profile pairing to become the inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions.

3. Kris Statlander & Harley Cameron

Recent months on AEW programming have seen Kris Statlander form an alliance with Harley Cameron.

Entertaining backstage segments have highlighted their chemistry, and in-ring the duo have begun to gel in both tag and six-woman bouts.

Although there were frequent teases of Statlander joining the Death Riders, her attack on Wheeler Yuta on the September 24 Dynamite made clear her partnership with Cameron is set to continue.

With Statlander now AEW Women’s World Champion, it feels unlikely that she and Cameron will also become inaugural tag champions, but it is still a possibility.

2. Jamie Hayter & Alex Windsor

AEW has two standout British stars in its women’s division.

Alex Windsor arrived over the summer and immediately impressed, showcasing her gritty, hard-hitting style in a series of standout bouts against Mercedes Moné.

Jamie Hayter recently returned from injury at Forbidden Door in August, reminding everyone at All Out in the excellent four-way for the Women’s World Title why she’s one of the hardest-hitting and most explosive female stars in North America.

While they’ve yet to pair up, their similar rugged in-ring styles would make them a big-name team and excellent work-rate champions.

1. Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford

Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford have been aligned since Bayne re-emerged in the company at the beginning of the year.

In their early outings as a team, they picked up some big-time victories – including over Toni Storm & Thunder Rosa and Kris Statlander & Thunder Rosa.

However, recent months have seen the duo lose as much as they win.

With AEW clearly very much behind Bayne, and Ford having been with the company since its inception, winning the Women’s World Tag Team Championship would be a significant and deserved accolade for both.
