After dropping the Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre, there is an unknown path ahead for Cody Rhodes.
With brand new stars from NXT that could pop up to strike, or rehashing old rivalries from the past, there could be some interesting plans coming soon for Cody that have nothing to do with chasing gold.
Here are six plans for Cody Rhodes in WWE that don’t involve chasing a title for the next several months.
6. Targeted By Trick Williams
One potential fresh feud for Cody Rhodes that doesn’t involve a title could be Trick Williams.
With Trick Williams showing that he is unafraid to take on veterans on the SmackDown roster, perhaps he will be headed for a collision course with Rhodes.
Already interacting backstage on SmackDown with Cody Rhodes and clearly unafraid of him, it could be an emboldened Trick who targets the recently dethroned Rhodes.
With the seeds for a future feud already planted, it could be that this rivalry ends up becoming a big one on the road to WrestleMania 42.

5. Abducted By The Wyatt Sicks
With Cody Rhodes having lost his Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre, he could find himself facing a dark time.
With some reports that there could be a bit of a character shift incoming for Rhodes during these dark days, perhaps it could lead to a much more emotionally powerful performance.
Since Rhodes didn’t interface with Bray Wyatt or the Firefly Funhouse style cinematic universe, Cody could end up having a transformative experience through segments with the Wyatt Sicks.
There is, however, a connection between Cody Rhodes and Bray Wyatt in the form of Cody’s father Dusty, which could come into play.

4. Rivalry With Chris Jericho
While the future plans for Chris Jericho remain unknown, it could be that he ends up returning to WWE or even debuting in TNA Wrestling.
However, either way there could still be an intriguing non-title storyline between Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho, specifically rooted in a fictionalized version of events from their shared time in AEW.
With WWE having the opportunity to craft a storyline that was ‘inspired by real events’, it could leave hardcore fans glued to their seats and looking for every little Easter egg within the segments, while also proving interesting to the more casual viewer.
Able to crossover for a feud even if he doesn’t end up re-signing with WWE and rather appearing in TNA, there could be unique sparks between Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho in 2026.

3. Seeking Revenge On Jacob Fatu
The next step for Cody Rhodes might actually be going on a little bit of a tear, unleashing some Crash Out Cody antics around SmackDown.
While Cody Rhodes faced Three Stages of Hell in his match against Drew McIntyre that would ultimately seal the end of his Undisputed WWE Championship reign, it wouldn’t truly end up being McIntyre who bested him.
In the end, an attack by Jacob Fatu on McIntyre led to Rhodes grabbing Fatu. While the pair tangled in the corner, McIntyre sneakily escaped the steel cage and left the final stage of hell victorious.
With Rhodes infuriated after the match and notably fighting Fatu, there is certainly unfinished business on SmackDown that is likely to come to blows sooner rather than later.

2. Win The Royal Rumble
The next stop for Cody Rhodes on the Road to WrestleMania 42 could be an an entry into the 2026 Royal Rumble in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
While technically still leading to a title shot down the line, seeing Cody Rhodes have to wait until WrestleMania 42 to try his hand at re-capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship could be the right move.
Making history by joining Stone Cold Steve Austin as the only other man in WWE who would have captured three Royal Rumble victories, it could be that 2026 is Cody’s year yet again.
Finding himself at a crossroads as to how he might make it back to the top of the card and to possibly main event WrestleMania 42, it could be that this year’s Rumble proves to be must win for Rhodes.

1. The Rock Returns
There is certainly still some unfinished business between Cody Rhodes and The Final Boss, The Rock.
While the last time the pair were in the ring together, Rhodes told Rock to “go f**k himself”, the interaction went on to include John Cena turning heel with an assist to rapper Travis Scott in a beat down on Cody.
With Seth Rollins’ injury potentially shaking up WrestleMania 42 plans involving Roman Reigns, perhaps instead of Rollins vs Reigns, we could actually see Reigns vs Rhodes with The Final Boss as a special guest referee to sweeten the pot.
While there are some fans who have pushed back against the idea of Reigns vs Rhodes at WrestleMania 42, perhaps the inclusion of The Rock could end up making the storyline come together.
