Here are five potential rematch stipulations that could happen for an inevitable rematch between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.

5. Cinematic Match

While the application of the cinematic match was out of necessity during the pandemic, there is a case to be made for why one could be powerful today.

With the pair having a very enjoyable cinematic Christmas fracas already, featuring Cody Rhodes ‘attacking’ Drew McIntyre at his home after McIntyre had attacked Rhodes on his tour bus — perhaps more could be explored in the medium between them.

Taking parts from the big budget feel of Rhodes’ face-off with Roman Reigns at Georgia Tech as well as the gritty violence of their most recent vignette — something special could come from the latest go around between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.

Having the ability to segue from a pre-taped and highly stylized fight sequence into a potential live brawl walk out in front of the crowd, it could be a fun nod to the past.

4. Hell in a Cell Match

Hell in a Cell remains a stipulation that is most artfully applied when there are actual emotional stakes on the line for the bout.

Certainly no stranger to facing off against major rivals inside Hell in a Cell, it could be that Drew McIntyre’s next cellmate is Cody Rhodes.

Having most recently faced CM Punk in a Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood 2024, McIntyre has more recent experience with settling his grudges inside the cage.

However, with Rhodes hosting his own landmark moment already inside Hell in a Cell when he took on Seth Rollins in 2022 with a torn pec, the showdown could be a historic one.

3. Three Stages of Hell

Another vintage match concept that could make a return might be a Three Stages of Hell match between the two fierce rivals.

With the match type already hosting several notable moments throughout history with the likes of Austin vs. Triple H at No Way Out 2001, Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H at Armageddon 2002 amongst others in subsequent years, it was most recently used at NXT Takeover Toronto 2019 between Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano.

With each specific Three Stages match has its own line-up for the match-types and which order, Rhodes and McIntyre would have room to not only utilize the match concept but revolutionize it for the latest era of WWE.

Potentially utilizing three rare match stipulations to create their own special Three Stages of Hell, there could be a lot of creative violence in the re-match between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.

2. First Blood Match

With the changing of the times in WWE has been the return of just a little bit of blood on-screen with a few different memorable moments in recent years.

However one former stipulation that was used far more in the early aughties was the First Blood match by which the winner is the first to make his opponent bleed.

Potentially a bit difficult to pull off in that one errant blow could ruin the entire match if there were accidental bloodshed, there could be some kind of hardcore additional note to the bout.

With whomever is the first to bleed being then required to say “I quit” in order for the match to actually stop or force their opponent to follow suit — there could be a brand new combination of the two stipulations to form a brand new monster.

1. Hollywood Back Lot Brawl

In by far the most exciting option on this list would be the resurrection of the Hollywood Back Lot Brawl from WrestleMania 12 in 1996 in Anaheim, California.

For the uninitiated, the bout was between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Rhodes’ own big brother, Dustin Rhodes portraying his Goldust character as they brawled out back before heading into the arena. For the curious, there is also an interesting element of reference to the infamous OJ Simpson police chase through Los Angeles that had occurred 21 months prior to WrestleMania 12.

Definitely able to get a fresh and modern coat of paint, the pair of Rhodes and McIntyre could be the perfect duo to face off in a Hollywood themed brawl.

With each set to forge their own paths in Hollywood with enigmatic roles nearing future release — with Cody featuring as Guile in the upcoming live action Street Fighter and Drew with a role in the upcoming Highlander remake — it could be the perfect setting to go to war.
