With WWE fans continuing to be hopeful that Chris Jericho could be on the verge of making a return to the company, he will need a first feud.

From longstanding rivalries to other face-offs that would be happening for the first time ever, there are some interesting options for who could be the first opponent for Jericho back in WWE.

Here are six potential return opponents in WWE for Chris Jericho.

6. Dominik Mysterio

While it seems that Dirty Dom could be out of action due to a shoulder injury, the most recent reporting taps him as hopeful to return by Royal Rumble at the end of this month.

Possibly being a seamless transition to fill in the gap, it could be Chris Jericho who meets up with Dominik Mysterio and similarly to John Cena — the legend picks up the victory now.

Leading to a longer feud and likely more bouts down the road, Mysterio could certainly reclaim his IC title from Jericho or even set the stage for another feud entirely.

With Chris Jericho certainly having an extended history with Dirty Dom’s Dad Rey Mysterio, perhaps a triple threat match at WrestleMania 42 could end up settling multiple scores at once.

5. GUNTHER

One dream match that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago is now seemingly quite possible if Jericho makes his debut on WWE Raw might be to take on The Ring General.

While Chris Jericho isn’t necessarily known for his heavy handed style, he has proven that he definitely has the ability to match energy and could put on a clinic against GUNTHER.

Most recently featured in his ROH World Championship title reign with bouts against the likes of Tomohiro Ishii, Matt Cardona and Bandido — Jericho definitely could put on a spectacular show against GUNTHER.

In a bout that would undoubtedly come back around in the future, it could be a satisfying way for fans to see GUNTHER’s smug attitude around having beaten John Cena lessen a bit while also planting seeds for a potential retirement storyline down the line.

4. Logan Paul

Potentially immediately jumping into The Vision storyline that rules WWE Raw on Netflix, there could be a big feud brewing between Logan Paul and Chris Jericho.

With Jericho poised to return as a babyface hero in WWE, it would make complete sense to see him target a major heel presence on the current roster.

While hiss shady antics have not lessened since joining The Vision, Paul could find himself in a situation that even his beloved brass knuckles aren’t helpful — The Walls of Jericho.

Painting a fascinating substory immediately of Jericho returning to target Paul Heyman — there could be an evolving battle for the soul of WWE storyline over the coming years.

3.  Kevin Owens

Often remembered for his tag team with Kevin Owens during his later work in WWE, Chris Jericho would seemingly have the perfect first opponent back in his former ‘best friend’ Owens.

While the match-up could be premature, with Owens only have undergone neck surgery over the Summer — perhaps their in-ring bout will take some time to get to.

If they have a prolonged verbal joust with limited physicality, it could end up making their eventual actual match even more emotional.

With the return of Jericho coupled with the return (and possible concern for) Kevin Owens, there could be a unique moment of both men having both babyface and heel characteristics within the same match.

2. AJ Styles

With a potentially slim margin of overlap back in WWE before AJ Styles departs, the ideal first opponent for Jericho could be the Phenomenal One.

While reports note Styles is contracted with WWE until after the Royal Rumble, it could be a now or never return to their feud or friendship.

Having both engaged in battle in the ring as well as been a tag team (Y2AJ, don’t forget!) there could certainly still be some interesting stories left to tell.

With the unique opportunity to see two true legendary veterans go to war in the ring, it would seem that this match-up would be a solid bet.

1. Roman Reigns

There hasn’t been a singles feud between Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns — certainly not with the Bloodline iteration of Reigns.

With unclear match-ups for WrestleMania 42 still being sorted out, it could be that there is a surprise rivalry between Reigns and Jericho that hasn’t been expected.

Not needing to be feuding over any specific championship title, the pair of living legends could end up embroiled in a feud of an entirely different kind.

With Reigns potentially tired of interlopers returning to a WWE that he made culturally relevant again, Roman could also end up being an agent of The Rock in looking to swiftly take down Jericho.
