With reports that WWE may have pitched specifically a retirement storyline in hopes to recruit Chris Jericho to re-sign, it could be amazing.
From a pre-announced run similarly to John Cena or something entirely different, there are some interesting things that Chris Jericho could do upon his return to WWE.
Here are five potential retirement plans in WWE for Chris Jericho.
5. Riyadh To Riyadh Farewell Tour

With continued speculation that when his AEW contract ends, Chris Jericho is poised to re-sign with WWE — an interesting new report emerged.
It could be that when Chris Jericho makes his initial appearance on WWE after re-signing, he already announces his intents to retire. He could make his return to WWE at Royal Rumble 2026 in Riyadh and plan to stick around until WrestleMania 43 in April 2027 also in Riyadh.
Potentially setting up his own long farewell tour, fans would have plenty of notice to make arrangements to check out his last swing through their town.
With expectations clear from the outset, it could become an exciting tradition for WWE fans after the farewell tour for John Cena to have a full lead-up to the departure of a legend.

4. Fake Retirement

It would be a tremendous move for the chameleon Chris Jericho to go through an entire charade of retirement in WWE — before pulling the rug out from underneath everyone.
Potentially coming back with a different character, there could be an amazing final gotcha! moment from Jericho in his legendary career.
In the vein of John Cena’s shocking heel turn making waves in professional wrestling, Jericho could mix things up halfway through his retirement run by turning heel and claiming he was never leaving.
Potentially setting up a fun second half to the storyline (reverse to Cena), where the babyfaces on the roster ended up having to face the crucible of Jericho — he would eventually encounter one that would take him down and ‘force’ the end to his career.

3. New List Of Jericho

One of Chris Jericho’s most memorable gimmicks from the end of his most recent WWE run was his List of Jericho.
Keeping track of a perpetual list of those who had wronged, slighted or even minor inconvenienced him — Jericho would dramatically use a clipboard and pen to add people to his list.
Throwing in a catchphrase of course (“You just made the list!”), it would be an intriguing move to see the list resurrected but possibly with even more dastardly intentions.
If Jericho made it clear he was returning with a dramatic list of those who were going to be in crosshairs from the onset, it would be fascinating to see different storylines unfold as Jericho reveals who he is targeting next. Refusing to retire until he had taken out all of his old enemies, it would remain a mystery who his ‘Final Boss’ would be.

2. Emissary To The Final Boss

One very intriguing retirement plan for Chris Jericho would be for him to make his WWE return and gain babyface crowd reaction before a reveal that came later.
If it were slowly unfurled that not only was Jericho back as a emissary for The Rock but that he was specifically looking to inflict ‘the corporate will’ on the roster, he could bring some of the dark satire with him from AEW.
Able to embody the accusations hurled at Cody Rhodes about being ‘Corporate Cody’, instead Jericho would lean into the narrative and make it clear that the bottom line was his ultimate benefactor.
Certainly able (and possibly granted permission!) to bring back a very Vince McMahon-style corporate character, Jericho could become the brand new face of evil going up against the every day man on the roster.

1. Launching WWE Japan

A potential role for Chris Jericho on-screen as an invading faction leader that brings his own group with him upon arrival could actually extend to a much more real-life movement towards incorporating more international talent.
With WWE continuing to expand into more and more diverse worldwide markets, there are few active wrestlers that are as marketable as Chris Jericho. Having previously appeared in NJPW in notable runs, Jericho has continued his connection throughout his time in AEW.
Potentially using that relationship leverage and general social capital to benefit WWE, Jericho could be a part of making the next big expansion.
With WWE acquiring AAA in Mexico and later announcing the foundation of a AAA Performance Center, continued global localization may be in the future. Jericho certainly could prove to be an ambassador for further movement within Japan, particularly in the setting of WWE’s recent run of live events in the country that were well received.
