With AJ Styles making an appearance at TNA Wrestling Slammiversary 2025 – perhaps there are already seeds being planted for a future match.
With Styles signed to WWE for another year and the continued partnership between NXT and TNA Wrestling – perhaps AJ Styles is set for more than just a one-off match in TNA in the future.
Here are seven potential TNA Wrestling opponents for the return of WWE star AJ Styles.
Leon Slater

Appearing at Slammiversary – AJ Styles marked his return to TNA Wrestling for the first time in over a decade.
In comments at the event, Styles touted the new X-Division Champion Leon Slater who at just 20 years old became the youngest ever champion to hold that title.
While Styles was complimentary of the young star, he might also be interested in testing his abilities against the new champ.
Although it might not actually come to fruition – this match up would surely make magic.

Frankie Kazarian

With initial hints seemingly suggesting that AJ Styles may be set for some kind of altercation with Kazarian – the moment didn’t end up happening.
However, it seems that while TNA Wrestling didn’t want to specifically hype a potential future match – instead AJ Styles was on hand to celebrate his time in the X-Division.
With a still looming potential altercation between the pair that could be referenced if it were to be confirmed Styles was coming in to TNA for a match – perhaps Kazarian would be the opponent that makes the most sense.
After having previously commented that he hopes to face Kazarian again – perhaps AJ Styles will get his wish.

Matt Cardona

While he continues to refer to himself as an Indy God, Matt Cardona still pops up in TNA Wrestling from time to time.
It might make for an interesting match-up to see Cardona go one-on-one with AJ Styles.
Although there are definitely other TNA Wrestling talent that make more sense to have a marquee match against Styles – as to promote TNA – Styles vs. Cardona is still an intriguing idea.
With AJ set to stick around in WWE for another year – perhaps we’ll see this one happen down the road instead.

Mike Santana

After the heartbreaking hometown loss at TNA Slammiversary – by which Trick Williams still retained the TNA Wrestling Championship – Mike Santana’s future is uncertain.
Looking shocked at the loss by which Trick managed to pull Santana off of Hendry while he was mid-pinfall in order to capture the pin for himself – Santana may be ready for a side quest.
Potentially continuing on to capture the gold and then facing Styles – Santana could also be reasonably distracted by a program with AJ Styles from his current pursuit of the TNA Wrestling Championship.
With his recent skyrocketing popularity and already having appeared multiple times on NXT – a logical next step for Santana could be to test his skills against Styles.

Joe Hendry

Another star on the losing end of the TNA Wrestling Championship match against Trick Williams was Joe Hendry.
While he may end up moving on from his attempts to reclaim the title – he could find himself up against AJ Styles.
Much like Hendry versus Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41 – there doesn’t really need to be an intricate storyline to set up Styles vs. Hendry.
With the duo being fan favorites – it would seem like a logical choice for a non-title showdown.

Mustafa Ali

One match that would just be incredible to see is AJ Styles taking on Mustafa Ali.
With plenty of ability to lean into different storylines, the feud could be as serious or as light-hearted as either side saw fit.
Given that Ali was finding traction in NXT ahead of being released in September 2023 – it could be a great time to see him make a return to WWE TV.
While it isn’t confirmed that there will be any crossover by which TNA stars come looking for Styles on the main roster – the prospect is pretty exciting.

Jeff Hardy

One potential showdown that could be a lot of fun would be AJ Styles taking on Jeff Hardy in singles action.
While the Hardy Boyz just reclaimed the TNA Wrestling Tag Team Championships – which they’ll go on to face the team of D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley at TNA Bound For Glory 2025.
However, perhaps Styles might want to tangle with specifically Jeff Hardy one more time.
Having feuded in both WWE and TNA Wrestling, since both legends are still in active competition – the time might be right to revisit their rivalry.
