AJ Styles’ career could be coming to an end with his match against GUNTHER at the WWE Royal Rumble premium live event.
Before that match, Styles will have one last shot at a final SmackDown match the night before the Rumble.
Here are six potential opponents for Styles’ last episode of WWE SmackDown.
6. Sami Zayn
Ahead of Sami Zayn’s WWE Championship match against Drew McIntyre at Royal Rumble, perhaps he would be interested in tangling with the Phenomenal one for potentially the last time.
With both men having high stakes on the next night’s event, it could be a fascinating match in which each man attempts to show restraint before failing.
Able to tell a lovely story of starting out slow and ending in furious action, there could definitely be a final showdown between AJ Styles and Sami Zayn on SmackDown.
The pair’s last singles match against each other was over three years ago, so they may well want to run it back,

5. Carmelo Hayes
A star on the rise that could certainly benefit from having a last minute match against AJ Styles on SmackDown is Carmelo Hayes.
The current WWE United States Champion has the ability to compete against Styles and not only put on a great match but maintain strength in defeat.
With Hayes able to remain strong as the United States Champion (and without the title on the line), it could be a star making moment against Styles even without picking up the win.
Potentially leading to a heartwarming moment on SmackDown, there could be a very memorable passing of the torch moment.

4. Trick Williams
A brand new SmackDown star that could end up having a memorable match against AJ Styles for the first and only time could be Trick Williams.
With Trick Williams clearly a student of the game, it would make sense that he would hope to have a one-on-one showdown with AJ Styles before his potential departure.
Also easily able to generate a lot of fan ire with prodding at the potentially retiring AJ Styles, Williams could still end up benefiting even if he didn’t win the match.
Able to be remembered for landing several legendary verbal jousts with Styles before his retirement, Williams could end up being remembered as benefiting even in defeat for the interaction having occurred at all.

3. Kit Wilson
A WWE SmackDown star with an interesting current trajectory in the brand is Kit Wilson.
Having re-invented himself in a singles capacity, Wilson has recently been tangling with Matt Cardona.
Potentially able to face-off against AJ Styles in a fun bout with the genuine purpose to give Styles a silly win ahead of Royal Rumble, there could still be a star making moment in the bout for Wilson.
With the ability to have a big moment to show off his in-ring prowess against a legend like Styles, even a fun squash match could overall prove beneficial to Wilson moving forward.

2. Nathan Frazer or Axiom
One WWE SmackDown star that would be amazing to have a last chance singles bout against AJ Styles before the latter’s potential in-ring retirement is Nathan Frazer.
With the young star certainly drawing comparison to AJ Styles given his fast moving style in addition to high flying and compelling in-ring work, the pair could be an amazing last minute match.
Another option for an opponent for Styles on SmackDown could also be Frazer’s tag team partner Axiom.
Styles and the fast moving Spanish star would certainly be able to put on a spectacular show.

1. Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga
One match that could come about via tag team action could be AJ Styles teaming up with Cody Rhodes against the MFT team of Tama Tonga and Solo Sikoa.
Potentially joining forces with Cody Rhodes on SmackDown, there could be some sort of tag team action that sees Styles have one more victorious moment before the Rumble.
With general ill will towards Solo Sikoa as the leader of the heel group, it could be fascinating to see him have one final shot at AJ Styles.
With Styles able to pick up a clean victory alongside Rhodes, the SmackDown crowd could have one more moment of triumph before the Royal Rumble potentially holds heartbreak in the form of The Ring General, GUNTHER.
