6 AEW Title Changes Coming Soon

AEW has three pay-per-views still to come in 2025 – four if Ring of Honor’s Final Battle is included.

With these big shows on the near horizon, it seems more than likely that we will soon see some of the company’s titles change hands before the end of the year.

It may be unlikely for either world championship to switch given that Hangman Page is in the midst of a likely career-defining reign and Kris Statlander has only just captured the women’s belt at All Out – but many of the other titles appear to be up for grabs.

Here are six AEW title changes that could be coming soon.

6. Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa Become Inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions

Over the past seven days, two major storylines have unfolded in AEW: Timeless Toni Storm lost the AEW Women’s World Championship, and Tony Khan announced the creation of Women’s Tag Team Championship.

No date has yet been set for the new belts, but it seems more likely than not that a tournament will soon be announced, with the finals taking place at either Full Gear in November or Worlds End in December.

To establish the titles, AEW needs a big-time team as its inaugural champions.

For that, you could look no further than the company’s biggest female star, Toni Storm, joined by regular partner Mina Shirakawa – perhaps defeating the super-team of Mercedes Moné and Athena in the final.

5. Konosuke Takeshita Becomes Unified Champion

Konosuke Takeshita failed in his attempt to capture the Unified Championship at All Out in the outstanding three-way battle against champion Kazuchika Okada and CMLL’s Mascara Dorada.

While unsuccessful, it appears that his slow-simmering feud with his fellow Japanese star – and fellow member of the Don Callis Family – will continue.

With Takeshita recently winning the G1 Climax tournament in NJPW, we could see him win back-to-back tournaments by taking the Continental Classic in December.

A victory would allow him to challenge Okada for the title in a singles bout at Worlds End on December 28, winning the belt, leaving the Don Callis Family, and becoming a top babyface star in AEW.

4. Young Bucks Become Four-Time Tag Team Champions

The Young Bucks failed in their efforts to capture the AEW Tag Team Championship at All Out.

Their rivalry with champions Bandido and Brody King looks set to continue – on October 1 the Bucks team with Josh Alexander to take on Bandido, King and the returning Kenny Omega.

With the feud ongoing, we could very well see the Bucks finally dethrone the champions and become record-setting four-time AEW Tag Team Champions, perhaps as soon as next month’s WrestleDream.

However, with their rivalry against the recently reunited Jurassic Express also set to explode, the question becomes: how long would a fourth reign with the belts really last?

The creation of the ROH Women’s Pure Championship was first announced by AEW CEO Tony Khan back in April, yet an inaugural champion has still not been crowned.

After heavy delays, a single-elimination tournament for the belt finally began at the end of August, with Billie Starkz booking her place in the semi-finals to meet the winner of Yuka Sakazaki vs Serena Deeb, and Queen Aminata set to face the winner of Trish Adora vs Deonna Purrazzo.

It seems the new title could be decided at ROH’s final PPV of the year, Final Battle, on December 5.

While several big names remain in the bracket, given the championship’s focus on technical, submission-based wrestling, it feels like a natural fit for mat specialist and former TNA Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo to become the inaugural champion.

2. Death Riders Regain Trios Title

AEW's Death Riders

On AEW programming, The Death Riders continue to feud with Trios Champions The Opps.

At All Out, the group’s newest member Daniel Garcia defeated Katsuyori Shibata on the Tailgate pre-show, while on the September 24 Dynamite, Claudio Castagnoli – with interference from PAC – scored a win over Powerhouse Hobbs.

The feud rolls on into the 6th anniversary edition of Dynamite, with Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Daniel Garcia set to face Hangman Adam Page, Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs.

It appears that some version of The Death Riders – probably at WrestleDream on October 18 – could defeat The Opps and reclaim the belts they dropped back in April.

1. Rush Becomes Three-Time ROH World Champion

Bandido has been making a strong case for wrestler of the year, putting on outstanding bouts across both AEW programming and CMLL in Mexico.

Arguably, his very best matches have taken place in AEW’s sister promotion Ring of Honor, where he has delivered two widely celebrated ROH World Championship defenses in successive months – against Konosuke Takeshita in July and Hechicero in September.

His run of form looks set to continue, but how long his reign will last is another question; while his Final Battle opponent is yet to be announced, a likely challenger is Rush, who recently returned to ROH and is himself a two-time World Champion.

This clash could very well take place at ROH’s Final Battle in December, where we may see Bandido’s standout title run come to an end.
