6 AEW Title Changes Coming Soon

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley

AEW has a stacked summer ahead, with major pay-per-views coming in quick succession.

The company kicks things off with Double or Nothing on 25 May, followed by All In in July, and a return to the UK in August for Forbidden Door.

There are sure to be a host of title changes across these big time events.

Here are the title changes we’re most likely to see this summer.

6. Jon Moxley Loses the AEW World Heavyweight Championship

Jon Moxley has held the AEW World Championship since last October, capturing it from Bryan Danielson.

Since then, he’s kept the title out of sight – locked away in a briefcase.

It seems inevitable that it will soon be pried free and wrapped around someone else’s waist – the question, of course, is: whose waist?

If “Hangman” Adam Page was to win the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament by defeating Will Ospreay at Double or Nothing, it would set the stage perfectly for him to reclaim the AEW World Title at the company’s biggest show of the year – a Texas stadium event, where a cowboy winning would feel particularly apt.

5. Christian Defeats Nick Wayne for the ROH World TV Title

Christian Cage

19-year-old Nick Wayne captured his first singles title in the Khan-verse, winning the ROH World Television Championship by defeating Komander in April.

The victory has further provoked simmering tension between Wayne and Christian Cage – dissension that seems likely to erupt in the near future.

Wayne is currently impressing in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament, but he’s expected to return soon, with a challenge from Cage looming.

One of AEW’s big summer shows – All In or Forbidden Door – could be the stage where Cage takes the title, splitting the Patriarchy faction and pushing Wayne into a full babyface turn.

4. Bullet Club War Dogs Defeat The Opps for Trios Championship

Bullet Club War Dogs member Gabe Kidd shocked fans by interfering in the main event of Dynamite: Beach Break, costing Samoa Joe the AEW World Title against Jon Moxley.

It now appears the New Japan star will take part in Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing, going head-to-head with members of The Opps.

Given Kidd’s history with Opps member Katsuyori Shibata – his former trainer at the New Japan Dojo – it seems likely this feud will carry over into Forbidden Door, AEW and NJPW’s crossover event.

At Forbidden Door, we could very well see a War Dogs team, consisting of Kidd, Drilla Moloney, and Clark Connors, defeating The Opps for the AEW World Trios Championships.

3. Athena Finally Loses the ROH Women’s Championship

AEW’s Athena has held the ROH Women’s Championship since December 2022, earning her self-appointed title of “Forever Champion.”

With Supercard of Honor taking place in Texas the day before All In, that could be the perfect moment for her dominant reign to finally come to an end.

There’s no confirmed challenger yet, but it would only be fitting for Billie Starkz to be the one to do it – defeating her mentor after several failed attempts.

This could pave the way for Athena’s full-time transition back to AEW programming, reigniting her athletic-rivalry with Mercedes Moné that began during the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament in April.

2. Kazuchika Okada Drops the AEW Continental Championship

AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada

With All In: Texas shaping up to be AEW’s biggest show of the year, the stage may be set for the company’s biggest possible match.

Seeds are being planted for a fifth singles encounter in one of pro wrestling’s most celebrated rivalries – Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada, a feud that began in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

With Omega holding the AEW International Championship and Okada reigning as Continental Champion, a high-stakes unification bout seems entirely possible.

If that happens, we could see Okada’s year-plus title reign end at the hands of his greatest rival – and perhaps witness another instant classic in the process.

1. Mercedes Moné Beats Women’s World Champion Toni Storm

Mercedes Moné has now held the TBS Championship for nearly a year, having captured it from Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing 2024.

Throughout her reign, she has at times elevated the secondary title above the world championship, remaining undefeated and making a world title run feel inevitable.

At this year’s Double or Nothing, she faces Jamie Hayter in the Owen Hart Foundation Cup, with the winner set to challenge Toni Storm at All In.

A dream match between champions could unfold in Texas, with Moné potentially defeating Storm and adding another belt to her collection.
