WWE SmackDown has seen a lot of changes from format to new stars arriving throughout 2025.

Starting off the year with a major format adjustment, SmackDown went from a two-hour show to three hours and then back again, while new talent like Fraxiom, Giulia and Rey Fenix have debuted and added depth to the roster.

Now half way through the year, there will be even more changes whether it comes to character changes, new stables or new champions moving forward.

Here are six potential changes to WWE SmackDown.

6. Cody Rhodes Wins Undisputed WWE Championship

At WWE SummerSlam 2025, Cody Rhodes will challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

This bout could be a crucial one that will drastically change the entire landscape of the Friday Night SmackDown brand for the remaining year.

After losing the title at WrestleMania 41, “The American Nightmare” will have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot on the blue brand that will give them an active champion who is there every single week.

Rhodes defeating Cena will restore the Undisputed WWE Championship as the most prestigious prize in the company once more.

5. Randy Orton Betrays Cody Rhodes

At WWE Night of Champions 2025, Cody Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring Tournament Finals and earn a shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

During the course of this bout, “The Legend Killer” hesitated to pull the trigger on delivering a punt kick to Rhodes, which wound up costing him in the end.

After teasing a turn to the dark side, Orton could wind up turning on “The American Nightmare” at the most inopportune time.

Orton betraying Cody and costing him the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE SummerSlam could cause a massive shift to everything going on over on SmackDown right now in a major way.

4. Andrade Turns On Rey Fenix

Over the past few weeks on SmackDown, Andrade and Rey Fenix have been tearing it up on a big winning streak in the tag team division.

Picking up wins against the likes of DIY and Los Garza, the two stars have made for a formidable duo that have been unstoppable together.

On the July 25 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Andrade and Fenix will challenge The Wyatt Sicks for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Potentially coming up short in this match could lead to Andrade turning on Fenix to kickstart a rivalry between the two Mexican stars.

3. Tiffany Stratton Turns Heel

At the WWE Evolution 2025 premium live event, Tiffany Stratton defeated Trish Stratus to retain the WWE Women’s Championship.

In the lead-up to this match, Stratton was positioned as more of an antagonist against the returning legend Stratus.

Now that Stratton will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill, WWE SummerSlam 2025 could see a major change in the current champion.

Tiffy cheating to retain the title against Cargill could lead to a much needed heel turn that might be necessary with the current landscape of the SmackDown women’s division.

2. Aleister Black Starts New House of Black

Fans have been seeing a significant character change for Aleister Black as he has been feuding with Damian Priest and Ron “R-Truth” Killings in recent weeks.

After returning to WWE in April, it looked like Black would be a babyface over on the Friday Night SmackDown brand.

This latest change could see Black have a more long term run as a heel for the first time during his two stints in WWE.

Black turning heel and starting a new version of his AEW faction, The House of Black could be a logical move that could see him lead several different stars on the SmackDown roster.

The likes of Trick Williams, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, Lola Vice and Tony D’Angelo all seem like they are in the position to get called up anytime soon.

After seeing Fraxiom and Giulia make an immediate impact on the roster, there are various talent who could be next in line to become breakout stars in the not-so-distant future.
