For the first time in its 37-year history, WWE SummerSlam will be a two-night event.
Taking place on 2 and 3 August, the shows will undoubtedly aim to match the spectacle and scale of WrestleMania.
And much like WrestleMania, it’s almost guaranteed that several company legends will make appearances.
Below are five legends who could show up at MetLife Stadium.
5. Stone Cold Steve Austin
At WrestleMania 41, Stone Cold Steve Austin appeared in an instantly infamous segment, riding an ATV to the ring — only to crash it into the LED boards and knock over a fan.
The recently released WWE: Unreal series on Netflix revealed that Austin was originally planned for a bigger role at the event, serving as referee for a proposed Drew McIntyre vs. Bron Breakker match.
With Austin keen for a larger role and perhaps a future bout with McIntyre, could we see seeds for that planted at SummerSlam?
With McIntyre involved in a high-profile tag bout alongside Logan Paul against Randy Orton and Jelly Roll, could the Texas Rattlesnake be added to the match in some capacity?

4. Brie Bella
There has been much speculation that Brie Bella could return to WWE programming following her sister Nikki’s recent comeback.
On their shared podcast, Brie explained that one reason for her absence is her husband Bryan Danielson’s presence on AEW programming – noting that some in WWE are reportedly “uncomfortable” with this.
However, could this be a deliberate misdirection to keep a surprise under wraps?

3. The Hardy Boys
At SummerSlam, WWE is promoting a six-team TLC match featuring The Wyatt Sicks vs. Andrade & Rey Fenix, The Motor City Machine Guns, #DIY, The Street Profits, and Fraxiom.
This match has the potential to be the standout of the entire two-night, twelve-match card.
However, one thing that could elevate it even further would be the involvement of the team most synonymous with the TLC match: The Hardys.
Whether appearing in the crowd beforehand or, even better, entering as a surprise seventh team, the return of the legendary duo would send the MetLife Stadium crowd into rapturous frenzy.

2. JBL
WWE Hall of Famer JBL had a surprisingly busy 2024, making appearances across the wrestling world for TNA, AAA, MLW, and GCW.
On a recent episode of the Something to Wrestle podcast, he revealed he was originally slated to appear at TNA’s recent PPV, Slammiversary, even noting he was “training for it” – hinting at the possibility of an in-ring return for the long-retired star.
Clearly motivated for a return to wrestling in 2025 in some form, JBL could be poised to rejoin the company where he made his name and held the World Heavyweight Championship.
Could that possible comeback begin with a surprise appearance at WWE SummerSlam?

1. The Rock
Of all the legendary stars who could return at WWE SummerSlam, none are bigger than The Rock — and few would make more storyline sense.
At Elimination Chamber, The Rock orchestrated John Cena’s shocking heel turn against Cody Rhodes, but he hasn’t been seen since.
There’s been no payoff, no explanation.
Could we finally see that story pick back up, with The Rock appearing during the main event of night two as Rhodes and Cena battle in a Street Fight?
