On July 12, WWE presents the 40th edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The show is headlined by Goldberg’s retirement match, as he challenges Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title.

With this billed as Goldberg’s “Last Ride” and taking place in Atlanta, Georgia — the old stomping grounds of WCW — it’s likely we’ll see some familiar faces from WWE’s former promotional rival, including several of Goldberg’s most iconic opponents.

Here are five WWE legends who could return at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

5. Diamond Dallas Page

Goldberg was never known as the best in-ring worker — his WCW bouts kept famously short, hiding his limitations and spotlighting his explosivity.

That said, one opponent who always brought out his best was DDP, with their Halloween Havoc 1998 match being considered Goldberg’s best bout at the time.

Given the significance of DDP to Goldberg’s career — and vice versa — it would be fitting to see him appear at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

While the 69-year-old may only appear in the crowd, it would be both fitting and a great moment to see him hit one last Diamond Cutter to help out his old rival.

4. Hulk Hogan

Arguably Goldberg’s most iconic match took place nearly 27 years ago — defeating Hollywood Hulk Hogan on WCW Nitro at the Georgia Dome.

With Goldberg wrestling his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, could Hogan also appear on the show?

As the man most synonymous with SNME, it would make absolute sense — but his last WWE appearance drew heavy boos.

After that frosty reception, it remains questionable whether WWE will risk putting Hogan in front of a live crowd again.

3. Paige

Outside of WCW stars appearing on the show to honor Goldberg’s final bout, there’s potential for another more modern company icon to return to WWE at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Since leaving AEW at the beginning of the year, there has been constant speculation that Saraya will return to WWE and reassume the character that brought her global recognition: Paige.

With WWE bringing back its all-women’s show Evolution the day after SNME, it seems like an especially apt moment to bring her back and help promote the show.

A return to WWE and reassumption of the Paige gimmick feels near — the question is, will it come this weekend?

2. Kevin Nash

Another of Goldberg’s most famous — or more aptly put, infamous — opponents who could appear at Saturday Night’s Main Event is Kevin Nash.

In 1998, at the height of Goldberg’s popularity — as by far the hottest act in WCW — Nash politicked his way into being the man to end Goldberg’s unbeaten streak and take the world title off him.

What followed was an infamous match where Nash blasted Goldberg with a cattle prod — Goldberg was never as hot again, and neither was WCW.

For good or ill, few could argue Nash’s role in Goldberg’s career — or his own legendary status in both WCW and WWE – so don’t be surprised to see an NWO t-shirt–rocking Kevin Nash appear at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

1. Scott Steiner

Goldberg’s No-DQ match against Scott Steiner at Fall Brawl 2000 is widely considered the best match of his WCW run — and arguably the greatest of his entire career.

Steiner is another performer whose career is deeply tied to the city of Atlanta, having delivered some of his most iconic bouts there — both as a singles star in WCW and as one half of the Steiner Bros with brother Rick.

A few years ago, the likelihood of seeing Scott Steiner at a WWE event was near zero — he had vitriolically attacked the company, especially Triple H, and was even banned from attending the 2015 Hall of Fame ceremony.

However, things have changed since the success of Rick’s son, Bron Breakker, which led to a 2022 Hall of Fame induction for the Steiner Bros and Scott’s own son Brock signing a WWE NIL contract this year – given that, we could very well see “Big Poppa Pump” make an appearance at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
