Beginning in 1985, WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event returns for its 40th edition on 12 July, live from Atlanta, Georgia at the State Farm Arena.

The main event sees WCW legend Goldberg return to his old stomping grounds — a city where he played professional football for the Atlanta Falcons and famously defeated Hulk Hogan to capture the WCW World Title — for the final match of his career, taking on WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.

With only three matches currently announced for the card, there are sure to be further additions, as well as surprises.

Below are five potential surprises we could see on the show.

5. Seth Rollins Attempts To Cash-In Briefcase

On the 30 June edition of WWE Raw, Seth Rollins interrupted GUNTHER’s promo as he laid out his plans to retire Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Threatening “The Ring General” with his Money in the Bank briefcase, Rollins declared an “all-out assault on both championships” – before quickly running away when CM Punk’s music hit.

Rollins and Punk’s long-term feud looks set to continue into the summer and beyond.

At SNME, we could very well see Rollins sprint out following a GUNTHER victory, ready to cash in – only to be chased off by Punk before he seizes the opportunity.

4. Paige Returns

WWE is set to hold its second all-women’s Evolution show the day after Saturday Night’s Main Event.

With ticket sales reportedly underwhelming so far, we can expect that WWE will continue to push the event heavily during SNME.

And what better way to generate buzz than announcing the long-awaited return of Paige?

Having her return on SNME to hype Evolution – and possibly announce her own in-ring comeback – would be a huge surprise.

3. Oba Femi Debuts

WWE NXT Champion Oba Femi

On 12 July, WWE isn’t just promoting Saturday Night’s Main Event – they’re running a double-header, with an NXT PLE airing earlier in the day.

At The Great American Bash, NXT Champion Oba Femi is set to defend his title against standout worker Yoshiki Inamura – and looks likely to retain.

Femi has continued to impress with his dominant in-ring style and undeniable charisma – given that, it appears the right time to pull the trigger on a main roster move.

With The Great American Bash also taking place in Atlanta at the smaller Centre Stage Theatre, we could see Femi make his long-awaited debut on the main roster later that same night.

2. Karrion Kross Secures Win

Karrion Kross continues to get big reactions from WWE fans – something he demonstrated again on the 7 July edition of Raw, despite working as a heel and feuding with Sami Zayn.

Yet you have to go all the way back to Extreme Rules in October 2022 for his last major win on a big show – excluding Smackdown or house shows – when he defeated Drew McIntyre.

Given the level of support he’s personally cultivated, seemingly fuelled by social media buzz, it feels like WWE has to pull the trigger and give him a serious push.

While he hasn’t yet been announced for the card, don’t be surprised if Kross gets a last-minute match at Saturday Night’s Main Event – and finally picks up that long-overdue victory.

1. Stars of WCW Appear

Since resurrecting Saturday Night’s Main Event last year, WWE has often brought back stars and legends from its original run — including the Million Dollar Man, Jimmy Hart, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and The Bushwhackers — even having iconic announcer Jesse “The Body” Ventura return to the commentary booth.

With this show marking Goldberg’s final match and taking place in one of WCW’s old stomping grounds, Atlanta, it’s likely we’ll see some of Goldberg’s contemporaries and most famous opponents appear.

With numerous names on the table, don’t be surprised to see recent WWE Hall of Famer Lex Luger, Diamond Dallas Page, Scott Steiner, or Kevin Nash make an appearance.

As a surprise, expect WCW nostalgia at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
